belt questions...rubbing on guard

Took the secondary off to send to Ulmer to get looked at.

Notice the belt is rubbing on the bottom of the guard, not alot, but there is some marks.

Also have 1700 miles on this belt, what should I look for to tell if its still in spec, etc....sorry new to some of this stuff.

Yeah, it'll rub a little on the belt guard. Totally normal. As for checking spec... I think that the specs are printed on the belt guard --- just measure it with a caliper and see if its in spec.

sounds simple enough - thanks wasnt too worried about the rubbing as its very minimal, just caught my eye.

since we have no snow, and I will be on a cruise, Allen said to ship my secondary in and he will take a look.

I had an issue last year when I installed it, like I could take all the bolts off when together and it would just stay stuck. But thats been 1700 miles ago so I figure if the brass was a little outta spec its probably wore in by now...LOL

Because the spring not only pushes out, but also twists, the helix usually won't just *pop off*. If you remove the helix bolts, you would need to fight it to remove the helix -- turn it clockwise while pulling out. But note: Once it comes off, that spring is tight, so it can be difficult to put back on. I suspect that if thats your issue, then there's probably nothing wrong with it. If anything with the secondary, the main thing to watch for is the plastic sliders between the sheave and the helix - you don't want them to wear through.

I guess I should have added, it wouldnt sperate even when I rotated it away from the buttons.

But no big issues, Allen will take a look and see whats up. I cant ride it for a few weeks anyways.

Take the guard off, sit down, put the bottom middle against your knee and bend it back slightly.

You can push the guard down when you put a spare belt into the holder so pull up with one hand while you push the belt down with the other.
