Belt Squeal on Idle

Is it common for the belt to squeal on idle?
My new to me 06 Apex RTX belt is annoying on idle.
The belt has about 700 miles on it and has squealed since day 1.
If I bounce on the running boards on idle I can get it to go away sometimes. The belt height is in spec. according to the book.

if it is squealing then you will need to remove the washers and put the bolts back. By doing this you are opening the sheath and dropping the belt down just enough to stop the squeal. These three bolts are on the back of the secodary sheath.

by takeing the shims out it will get rid of the sqeall by lowering the belt in the secondary, but you will also loose top end by doing this. some say that it goes away after awhile. mine has been doing it for 1000miles but mine isn't all that loud.

This has no affect on top end what so ever! By lowering the belt will effect take off only. Explain to me how you feel top end top end is compromised.

Yes, If Its squeeling then you should remove the shims in the 3 bolts on the back of your secondary clutch. keep them handy because once you get a few more miles on your blet (1200-1500) your belt will stretch and you will need to put the shims back in. If you let it squeel you will get rubber from the belt on your clutch sheeves and could cause some slippage. You may also cause flat spots in the side of your belt and that could ruin the belt.. If Its only squeeling a little bit, ride it more and once the belt stretches it will go away, If its squeeling loudly and alot, then I'd take out the shims in the back of the secondary clutch...

ha .... sorry you are right....meant to say bottom end but was thinking of some other stuff. thanks for pointing this out. and shanksy is right... if it is squealling to loudly you should move it down. i don't know what everyone else had got with their sled when they first got it but i only got yammies 1mm shims. i was finding that when i was taking out my shim my belt sat to low again. yammie also has a .05mm shim that you can put in instead of the thicker 1mm. or..... you can find and use your own shims.

What I have discovered is on one of my Apex's it's due to clutch alignment. To check this, raise the back of the sled, remove the belt guard, start the sled, throttle up a couple times to engage the clutches, now look straight down onto the primary as the sled is still running. You may notice the belt is biased more to one side vs. the other side. If you move the belt toward the center, the noise will dissapear. If this is the case, pull the secondary and remove one of the washers on the effected side of the secondary, and re-install. The noise won't go away totally, but it will take care of a lot of it. The type of squealing mentioned above is caused by too tight of a belt and its exerting too much pressure on the spindle of the primary. If the rear of the sled is elevated, the track may turn while the sled is idling. In this case, you would remove shims.

give me tight and squeeling over too loose anyday. at least if it squeels you know its tight. wish these were adjustable easily like poo used to be. set as tight as possible and back off till squeel goes away. loose not only performs terrible, it is hard on the belt and sheaves, saw an xc few days ago that melted a brand new clutch because the kid had adjusted wrong direction and was way loose, in combo with the fact its an 800 and the kid has 12" riser/pipes you can imagine how he rides

Thanks guys it's really not that bad. Just makes the sled sound cheap..... When you are idling at and intersection and guys are saying what's that? Bounce on the running boards and it gets quieter for a minute or two.I also liked the adjustability of my polaris clutch. I will ride it the way it is for now it works fine and is fun to ride with those pilot skis.......
