I just looked at my belt and there was some string pulled out so I put another one on now there is a squeal and she reves alot, belt is to tight? how do you fix this.
belt problems
remove the belt and clean it with soapy water and rough it up with emory cloth, use some scotch-brite on the clutch sleeves to remove the glaze and your good to go.

you mean remove the shim in the screws in the secondary?

The 3 bolt behind the secondary to adjust the drive belt, remove or put thinner washer it will open the sheave to make your belt sit lower in secondary. The belt will slack a bit and wont squeal.
Thanks guys, I removed them and it solved the problem.

Keep em handy cause once you get a few hundred miles on that belt you will need to put them back in and tighten it up as it stretches..
Thanks, I will.

exactly right
you would think they would make them adjustable with screws/locknuts more like DOO....some stuff yammie does just is ridiculous.
lol
Your right Dan it was alot more simple on my doo, this is not a hard job to do but it would be nice to keep the secondary on the machine to do it.

I have a whistle noise at idle. Just cleaned my clutches and installed new belt. Is there anything wrong with driving it till the belt breaks in. Seems pointless to remove shims for a couple hundred miles. Am I right or wrong.shanksyamaha said:Keep em handy cause once you get a few hundred miles on that belt you will need to put them back in and tighten it up as it stretches..
Thanks.
It's not a hard job to do, mine squealed at idel, cant be good for a new belt.

Kind a thought that about the belt? Guess it's back to the shop for some clutch disassembly again.attakmod said:It's not a hard job to do, mine squealed at idel, cant be good for a new belt.

I have a whistle noise at idle too. If I sit on the sled and get off then sit again the noise comes and goes.
New belt with hundreds of miles on it..I'll have to recheck the deflection. I hope it aint the clutch.

I realize this is an old thread, but is the consensus that the whistle at idle was a tight belt? Even if the belt has hundreds of miles on it?
My 07 GT was whistling yesterday at idle and it freaked me out as I was hoping it was not some sort of bearing in the engine. (those of us with no engine knowledge worry about the worst things)
Thanks for any replies.
