Hi I'm new here, I have been getting lots of good advice reading other peoples post, I'm hoping some one can help me with mine. I had a run in with a tree the other day and bent my a-arms on the left side. It pushed my ski back about 4 inches. I was able to drive home, but with much darting. I have a friend with some frame straighting equipment and was wondering if i could use it to pull the ski back? If so where would i chain the sled down when pulling to avoid damaging anything else? Any thoughts would be appreciated.

cheers

By what your AVATAR reads sounds like your CANADIAN I'd advise you to buy new ARMS from ROYAL DISTRIBUTING and replace them you can't straighten them, the bottom 1 is steel and top 1 is ALUMINUM, I had my buddy nick a TREE and eneded up costing him $1200.00 of YAM OEM parts, both ARMS, spindle, tie rod, bushings...thats 3 yrs ago when ROYAL didn't have aftermarket parts then, here's the link

Yeah pretty original eh. I was more concerned about getting some info to fix the sled, I'll have to come up with something better latter. Thanks for the info and link.

bent arms

th eproblems that will arise from straightening a-arms is the wear that will occur in the plastic bushings.you wont be able to get the arms completely straight, and you will wear those bushings out in a hurry. My riding partner did the same as you and bent his left side all to hell,we straightened it up,and got it veru close to straight, put in all new bushings.went on a 4 day trip to the mountains and the bushings were toast.I ended up giving him my front end off my apex,as i run the barkbuster front.
royal distributing sells chromeolly a-arms pretty cheap, good price if you ask me,you could also look in the classifieds for a used oem set.they seem to sell really cheap
good luck D

Makes sense that they would were out, I would like to try it, at least untill I can get some new parts. How did you go about straighting them? did you take them off, use heat, a press, pullers, mabey a big hammer? I'm gonna try it in a few nights, would like to ride this weekend. any tips would help.

thanks

Did you inspect the Bulkhead to see if that got busted (i.e. where the A-Arms connect.) That sounds like you hit the tree pretty hard. Could be that you have to replace the bulkhead on that side.

Also, If the bushings go out, then you are wearing into the bulkhead. Once you wear into the Bulkhead, new bushings will no longer fit and then your into changing bulkheads.

Also, I would hate to find out how unstable the sled is at 100MPH? How do you know the whole ski won't fall off on the first rock, after you are done bending things back? In my view, you are much better off fixing it right.

Well you were right, the bulk head on that side was cracked all to pices, along with the steering bracket :( I Ordered the new arms, they took about a week to come. I went to put them on and saw, after the old ones came off, that the bulk head was badly damaged. I started to remove it and after some more parts came off I saw the crack in the steering bracket. My question now is. Is there any way to remove just the left bulk head or do you have to take the whole bulk head out then split it? It looks like that is the way, but That is very time consuming. If anyone knows away to get one side out it would be appeciated.

Thanks

Sorry about being right. But better to find ASAP. You should be able to get the half out. But, sometimes it is just easier to take out the extra parts to make tbe way clear. You may want to try a search on "bulkhead".
