Best Looking Yamaha ever?

This post isn't about looks - - just some humor. My son has a 79 SRX 440, which is pretty much a toilet. He keeps it in a shed and seldom gets it out. Last winter several people were racing on the pond/lake he lives on. Long story short, he dusted off the 79, gave it 2-3 pulls and went out and ran 92 mph on radar. Old gas, old belt - - - I was very impressed.

1xr your obviously mentally disturbed  the 03 Silver ltd edition is by far the best looking sled Yamaha ever made ;)!

No way dude!!!!! The 04 RX-1 Limited kicks 03's butt... No comparison.... 03 is boring.... When people see the 04 LE they stop what they are doing, their mouth drops open to the point drool slides down their chin as they stare at the 04 LE wondering how come they dont have such a nice looking sled as that..... :-o

I'm not a big fan of the silver RX-1 but if I had to choose between the 03 or the 04, I would opt for the 03. Something about that silver-red combo just didn't do it for me. Of course, this is coming from someone who loves any Yamaha that is black. My 81 Exciter was black, the 98 XTC was black and now my 03 RX-1 is black. I know, I know, the 04 RX-1 was truely black and I'm not so sure I really like the 05 black-grey combo.

Speaking of vintage sleds, there is a Kaw dealer near me and the owner has a Kaw Interceptor in mint condition with only like 500 miles on it. Although back in the day, I still preferred my Exciter, I always admired those Kaws; the Intriguer, Intruder, and Invader. I didn't know they made the Interceptor until I bought my Kaw 900 Zxi jet skis from that dealer and got to talking about sleds. 8)

:-o They came out with a 4/6 motor which really kicked butt, still have it was like 10 hp stronger and you felt it. It was a long time ago but it had I believe 4 ports into crank and 6 ports out to cylinder but alot of those motors in my opionion had problems with their magnetos until john deer bought them out and fixed the problem with their ugly but fast early 80;s liqiufiers. the interceptor I think was in the 500 cc range but could never find one. I switched to yamaha while my buddies stayed with their own personal brands and I am still looking back and waiting for them, thinking of my one buddy last summer who bought a new 800 rev renagade that was going to kick my vipers $#%ss and couldn't, can't wait to buy my fourstroke. LaLaLa

HRD, yes the Intercepter has a 500cc motor. It and the Invader had two plugs per cylinder. Not sure about the # of ports, though

And yes, those JD Liqufiers were fast; even the 340's.

:D The sled that I switched to after my kaws was a 1988 phazer and I can remember myself looking at that sled and thinking it was the coolest looking thing, black and gray down the middle of the hood. The thing was the best sled and most reliable sled and would stay with most sleds almost double it's hp which was only 48hp but didn't run like it had only 48hp. My wife tells me all the time to sell it because I only ride it once a year, I can't let it go what would I get for a machine in really nice shape with 4500 miles on it $800.00 I think I'll keep it for the memories or until my wife tells me there is no more room for my next sled. :yam:

best looking yamaha ever

hands down! :-o
ssr 440 (1978)
i raced one my dad had while in jr high.
nothin like going to school on monday after winning on sunday.

That 78 SSR looks absolutely mint; ;)! For a racer that was an awsume sled, they had that in a 250 & 340 as well but limited amounts. The 77 SRX was another that was super hot ;)! , both owned many a race track back then. Those were the good old days, how time flys bye. ;)! ;)! 8) 8) :-o

Unless I am confusing them with the Intruders. My friends who had the Kawasaki sleds had two plugs per cylinder. One of them had both the Invader and Intruder and I do know for sure that one of them did not have the two plugs. Either it was the Intruder that had the two plugs or possibly it could of been a limited build on those two plug heads. Either way, they were nice sleds but I would still take my Exciter over them. :yam:
