best way to remove belt on '05 Vector

I don't know if the vector has a different secondary. one pic is the sheave closed and the other is with the sheave open and the belt ready to slip off

the wrench method also works but unlike the tool it doesnt hold it open for you.

Rich, do you have a belt changing tool that fits the 08 Nytro? I have one from a 2005 Vector but it doesn't fit the Nytro. The bolt diameter is way too small. also will the tool for the 2005 vector work on a 2006 Apex? Thanks

change belt

I haven't tried this yet but I saw a friend do it and I couldn't believe how easy he made it look. He pulled up on the belt while turning the sheive which pulled it into and spread the sheives from the bottom then he flipped the belt off the top. It was almost embarrasing.

Geezer 2

artie....i dont have one for nytro yet but i plan on making them.the tool will work on any yamaha sled 97 and newer except the 08 nytro and 07,08 phazer.

start by twisting the secondary and then pull up on the belt and that will aid in getting it open, once you get it going you will be able to slip the belt over the top of the sheave.

I used bdm's trick with the 12mm wrench and it was pretty dang easy to get the belt both on and off.

I wish that I could take credit, it came from someone else here on TY, sorry I can't remember who. ;)!

RE: the box wrench technique:

If you're torquing it clockwise, isn't there risk of loosening that nut? Wait a minute...I suppose clockwise is tightening the nut, not loosening it. Duh!

I like bdm have been using a 12 mm to remove and replace my belt on my 06 rage. The bolt does not seem to tighten in the process. I can hold the clutch open. Someone on this site mentioned the procedure.
