hey everyone!
Since ive own an RX-1( 1 month) I have been reading as much as I can about them.
I seem to notice that many people swap out the seat for an Apex seat( im assuming because it sits higher)?
This got me to thinking.......what are some other mods that RX-1 owners do to improve on the sled? Stop me if I'm wrong but isn't taking the rear suspension out an Apex another popular mod? Same with striping weight from the sled, how would this be achieved?
Ive been looking at the turbo set ups and they seem to be rear mounted turbos. Wouldn't a front mount turbo be more optimal as the compressed air has less to travel? Heat would be an issue on the turbo from the engine I suppose.
Let me know, Im very interested in learn all the different ways I could improve on the sled. Im open ears to both cheap mods and moderately priced mods.

some of the most popular are, apex seat mod, 2-4" riser according to rider comfort, clutching (I like ulmers rx set up for trail riding), 12-13mm swaybar (I liked the 13), cr10ek plugs for more horse power, foam the bars or rocks hot hands kit (as per rider preference), holtzman carb springs, and a shock rebuild/custom valving for your weight/riding style. the rest is all set up.
other will chime in with exh but here in Ontario that can be a problem. I never ran a turbo but they can require a lot of tuning if done wrong.
I recommend to do the mods in the order I have listed for the best bang for the buck from experience.
btw 05 rx1 has the mono rear suspension already. just check it close as there where problems with the rails cracking around the holes. most just replaced the rails or swapped in an aftermarket suspension.

6" Woodies Doolys make a big difference for handling, temp gage is nice too because they can run hot.

is adding a front mount radiator essential?? I have heard guys taking one from an Apex and installing one now that you mention that they can run hot

I don't have one and I've run it on some pretty warm days but I do use the ice scratchers if there is road running or hard packed trails and the gauge is great because you can see what's going on before getting into trouble.

I don't use a radiator and I have a 1.75" lug track and I have had no issues with heating even on the hard packed trails. But if I do I will be installing one. It's a good mod for piece of mind

I'm going to be installing on in my sled this summer when I have the time. I did have the temp light come on a few times this winter and I'd like to keep it running cooler.

Apex seat, bar riser, Apex rad install (sticky top of threads), HID headlights (you wont believe the difference), Sno trackers carbides, I added an Excell pipe to mine and love it not sure how Sudbury is for pipes.
Front mount turbo mounts behind the motor and requires a different fuel tank but that is not the problem, the problem is heat and melted dashes and stuff. Cracked header pipes was a problem as well. Rear mount removes the muffler and uses the turbo to quiet the engine (think less weight and yes its quiet). Another plus to the rear mount is a long pipe to the front for more cooling of the compressed air. Downside of a rear mount is turbo lag. Biggest downside is cost and more strain on the drive train and if you want big power it big bucks into the motor for even more cost.
For much less money a Excell pipe, Sled Dogs airbox trick and a clutch kit would surprise the he$$ out of you.

The turbos for the carburated motors are tricky I played with one for 2 yrs and could never get it to work consistently. The octane and jetting sizes are so critical and every time temp, barometric pressure and altitude changes adjustments must be made.
Seat mod to Apex with attack riser make the sled rideable while standing.
I preferred the 13 mm sway bar
Simmons flex skis
Ohlin coil over clickers

Even though ours is a RX 1 mountain we added a 4" riser (used 05 Mtn cables and brake lines), added 3" of foam to the seat, adjusted the track to deep snow setting, APEX Mtn ski's, adding Yamaha's flexible scratchers as we found they work really well on our Nytro and found to allow it to run cool on warm days is to flip the rubber carb cover over to front to allow better air flow.
