Did you just adjust the clip and preload and or go with the big boy spring?
I'm good size 260 or more with gear. My 07 Attak is stock settings. Seeing the charts and reading the posts here I should get the Clip to 3 and preload at 2 or 3. If so why the big boy spring? My concern is bottoming out and damageing something.

Just the Spring

Reading here, some will say you have to revalve the shock with the Big Boy spring but I didn't and the ride seems great so far. Two clicks on the RA to hard and it is very plush and haven't bottomed yet. Rides like a dream compared to the Warrior. I'm not a ditchbanger so maybe I won't see the difference. Since it seemed to dial in first try I haven't bothered to melt the skid and check what the clip settings were.

i put the big boy spring on my 07 apex er and love it . yami actually has 6 spring choices for this . i'm 240 dressed . when i get home i will post the part number of the one i used . (ithink i still have the wrapper it was in)

I weigh a good 220+. I have the Big Boy spring. It is set as per the chart in the manual.
Since I have installed it, I have never bottomed it out!
I simply hop on my buddy's stock sled, and I bottom it out!!

Did you revavle your shock?

I am 185, not dressed. I have the 07 Apex GT and i was bottoming and it would also pogo in it's stock form. I do ride kinda hard, but when it bottomed out in the bottom of every roller on a railbed to the point where I had to slow down to 40, I knew I couldnt take it any more. I went with the Hygear setup. Dual rate spring and revalves. Pricey, but worth every penny. No more bottoming, bigger range of adjustment on the electric shock, vastly improved ride and handling. If you can swallow the cost and are unhappy with the stock ride, I highly reccommend it.

no, I did just the spring outta convenience.

Sorry about the duplicate threads..I must have clicked twice...

im 240 lbs geared up on a 06 apex gt, couldnt take the bottoming after coming from an srx for the apex's alleged better suspension. Got the 6.5 spring, revalve, and updated head seal from pioneer performance. $300 bucks total after everything including shipping both ways. Road 120 miles the other day including some tug hill rough stuff. Road on soft setting all day except where it got rough I moved it up to midddle, no bottoming at all, felt great. Dont know if that helps you.

How come none of the dealers want to change the clip on the shock?

Whats the stock spring on a Apex LTX 2009?

I'm 280ish & have spring in 7th position.

You have to be very careful to respect the spring lenght versus the travel, meaning if you shorten your spring by changing the "C" clip location your spring will BIND or BUCKLE under load and WILL damage your shock to the point of wearing/rubbing threw it! thats when you have to have the proper extended lenght and SAG spec or else :o| your dealer should be able to set you up with the proper SPRING rate and re-valve/calibrate the shock to your weight and driving style, once you get eveything in line you'll love the ride.

225 lbs plus gear, if I was going to only add the spring for this season which one is best??? Fairly agressive rider, on rough groomed trails- no ditch banging, 07 attak.

I'd vouch for 6.5 I'm more or less the same weight as you and same riding style, when I 1st got the sled last year I installed the 6.5 without re-valving cuz the sled was new and said to myself well I'll get it done next year with some miles on it, well if I was to start over I'd get her done right away, stock valving with a 6.5 was KICKING like a wild donkey and tending to bottom out the odd time on big "G" whoops...this year with the re-valving done she's a totaly different beast what a improvement! ;)! :-o

I,ve got it set to 1st "C" clip position, cam @ 5 and rebound at softess limiter strap pulled 1 hole and transfer rod mid setting.
