What would you like to know?...BBY

Newbie
why I need 1
1. Lighter by 11 lbs
2. Breaths better (its vented)
3. More rigid foam
4. Ride height is increased
5. You can personalize (colors, logos...etc)
6. Styling
Id also say that no one NEEDS one, its definetly a personal thing and until you ride a sled with a Boss on it, its very hard to explain how nice they are. Hope this helps...BBY

BBY, what is the height difference between the new Apex seat and a Boss seat.
This is based on pre production only, but seeing the seat will be firmer, you will not sit in the Apex, but more like sit on. Just a guess but appearance wise, im sure the seat heights for the standard boss will be very similar to the stocker, but the ride will be higher. Im sure they will also have a high rise seat for the mountain guys as well. On 03 and 04 RX-1s, the standard Boss seat sat 2" higher than the stocker...BBY

I don't understand why anyone would change seats til they try the new Apex seats?!?!
$400-$500 Will go a long ways on a real upgrade, like computer reprogram or full clutching!

Boss told me last time I spoke to them, the new seat for the apex will save the same weight in comparison the the RX-1 which was 11 lbs

I guess youd have to ride one to really appreciate it. Pretty sure everyone was very happy with the way it felt who bought them last year. Again, its not for everyone and if you like the stock seat, there certainly is no need to change it...BBY

You guys are saying they are firm, but does your a$$ sink into them after sitting or do you just like hard seats?
I think thats whats been wrong with the factory seats for the last few years, they are too hard!
Back in the 80s they had the best seat in the biz & that was why everyone though Yamahas rode good back then!
They didn't have any suspension just softer seats!

I agree with BBY, sled seats are not made to be like a Lazy Boy. The seats must have some firmness to them because if they do not, then it can actually change the handling characteristics of the sled, just of how you are know sitting in the sled and not on the sled. I hope the seat is firmer because the proto, I sat on was way too soft and I sank down in it. They said it would be 30 percent firmer, so hopefully that will help. That was one of Yamaha's worst parts of the RX-1's, was the seats were way too low and too soft, I could not get comfortable on them, but when I sat on the Apex, I sat higher, where I could at least see the skis and with ithe seat being a little firmer it should be pretty good.

For those that don't understand what BOSS owners say when they say it is firmer than stock but more comfortable I'll try to explain it.
The foam in a stock seat is softer but, you don't have much padding between the seat pan (plastic bottom) and your butt. The BOSS seats are firmer than stock but have alot more padding to soak up even the slightest bump with out you butt hitting bottom. It's like comparing sitting on fully inflated air cusion vs. one half inflated. The fully inflated one is more comfortable because you not sinking down to the hard surface underneath.
The BOSS seats also have two port holes on each side to alow air inside the seat to escape quickly when compressed, stock seat doesn't that is why you can hear air slowly leaking back in through the stitching as you get off the sled (it has been slowly compressed out through same stiching during your seat time).
Stock seat vs. my BOSS high rise (alows hip placement higher than knees to make the sitting to standing transition easier) pics are below. Even though my seat is much taller than the standard BOSS seat the standard still hass as much potential for cusioning as the High Rise (my seat has more solid material in the bottom).
By the way my tank bag still fits ove the high rise seat

I put a boss seat on last year and absolutely loved it. The biggest plus for me was the added riding height, putting my hips higher. I also added a bar riser at the same time. Going from sitting to standing was much easier and overall it was more comfortable.

I like the factory seat better than the Boss. I,ve had the Boss seat . The factory seat is not to soft or to low for me . If your 155-160 lbs. and 5"4" its nicer to have the lower seat. With my weight the seat never bottoms out. For heavier and tall guys I can see where the Boss is the way to go. Its a great seat.
