Hey guys, I'm new to this site but not to Yamaha. I just bought a 2010 xtx from a friend. I know that this sled has been taken care of and its in excellent condition. One thing I noticed today while getting it ready was that on both sides the shocks right by the dial or clicker there is some pink oil. It is very minimal and it doesn't leak anymore when I get on the sled and toss it from side to side.
My questions are 1. Is it normal? 2. Is shock oil pink? 3. How much to repair in general?
The sled has 3,000 miles on it.
Thanks

Not normal, not sure what color it is, but I think the worst case scenario is the seals might need replacing. Ask the friend you bought it from if he turned the clicker dial a lot. If so he may have worn them out. Shock re-builds are usually $30-40 per shock, and you'll need to buy the new seals. Also ask him when the last time he rebuilt them was. At 3000 miles if they've never been done it's due, or over-due more likely.

Many times shock oil is red, it may appear pink in small amounts.

My best guess is that you are looking at remainings of assembly grease. The seals and the o-rings are lubricated with some kind of assembly grease before they are installed into the shock absorber. This grease might very well be red, and when being mixed with water or other washing detergents, it might very well look pink-ish.
A leaking clicker adjuster is for sure not common compared to leaking piston shaft seals or free piston seals.

My shock oil was pink/red when I exploded my rear shock last year. It was dripping everywhere and looked more pink than red. Just saying! Does the shock feel sluggish or blown? Hard to explain.

Thanks guys for the input. I cleaned up the shocks today and tossed the sled around a bit. I will check tomorrow for any additional leaking. It didnt leak much to begin with but it did catch my eye.
I also did some research and there is a dealer out there that specifically advertises a fix to this problem. Go to http://www.schmidtbrosmotorsports.com/s ... and-parts/ and scroll to the bottom.
I wonder how hard it would be to just disassemble the clicker and put in new seals.

Update guys,
I talked with the yamaha dealership today and they said not to worry about the leak. The mechanic said that its most likely a lubricant that is showing. He also said that these GYTR shocks almost never need to be rebuilt, so unless I have lose a ton it should not be a problem.
I will still try to get a second opinion on this.
