U.S. side doesn't give a crap what you do. It's the Canadian customs that are the real deal pricks. Just brought a sled over on Black Friday. Pay the tax on your purchase price at the border along with the RIV fee. Have the title in hand with the recall letter from Yamaha. Call 1-416-498-1911 ask for Hiedi Sun and she will email you the recall letter once you give her the correct VIN. It's all a breeze. Just a word of advise though, once you are free to leave, those idiots walking around the parking lot are aggrevating little sob's. They will asks you what you bought, look through you documents count your cash and try to pin you as some sort of criminal. I spent 6 hrs with those nimrods. So photo copy the listing of the advertisement for the vehicle to show proof. I logged on to TY 4Stroke to show them the listing of the sled I bought and it was deleted 1/2 an hour after I crossed an I had no proof that I found a sled that cheap. AS much as custom did not believe me on the price, they in return could not prove otherwise so they let me go and gave me back the keys to my impounded truck, trailer and sled. SO just smear your backside with proof is all I can say!!! Good Luck, Scott
By the way, I'd do it again... I'm a smarter man...I think?

Now that the GST @ 5% has been incorporated into the Harmonized Sales Tax, wouldn't that mean that 13% is the amount you pay now?

I think the HST is just for Ontario.
I believe you pay the GST at the border then the PST when you register the sled at home. Because what if I came back into Canada in Ontario but lived in Quebec?

I've imported Skidoo's into Ontario and all I paid was $209 RIV fee & GST at border, then PST at home when I licensing it.
Being Yamaha's are not made in North America (Skidoo's are), do you also have to pay duty?? I read somewhere Japanese vehicles pay 6.1% in addition to all the other fees.
Anyone confirm or dispute this?

No duty on snowmobiles to my knowledge, though I have no first hand experience, just second hand.

No duty. They are made in Japan but I think there is some assembly in the USA.

I brought a YAmaha 700 grizz over 2 years ago, paid no duties at all. Paid GST only and paid RIV fee on line when I got home. Again had to send RIV a copy of recall letter from Yamaha. Was a piece of cake. Saved $4000 over buying the same unit in Canada
