Found my track ratcheting this past weekend with 4400 miles on an 03. The dealer stated that the W arm Broke and trashed the rails and a number of other items. Close to $1000 parts and Labor. I have an extended warranty through 2006 but at First Yamaha would not replace it, then all they would do is replace the parts. That is a start, but I have seen a number of posts about W arms and am wondering if this: 1) is the same arm as in the Viper, Sxr, or other Proaction skids 1) if yamaha assumed that it would be sturdy enough for the RX-1 even though the load was 20% higher 3) was faulty production 4) resulted froma beefed up shock and spring but not the arm, etc.

I ride trails exlusively and cannot imagine a skid that cannot handle average or better than average trail conditions. This part should not have failed. A friends '03 F7 has gone mile for mile with me and has not seen any broken or failed items.

So please let me know if you, or anyone else you know has broken a W arm because total numbers speak and I am going to pursue a warranty for this issue.

If the results of failure are very high, then we should hold Yamaha accountable. I love the sled, and the products Yamaha offers but they have to make things right if they missed something. Hell, knowing that these motors will last forever we could even show them how important our purchasing power really is for the 2006 season.

your input would be appreciated.

Hey, is this poll anything like this one: http://www.rx1.info/viewtopic.php?t=7576 ???

1) Similar. For the most part interchangeable, but subtle differences.

2) Its not a load issue, its a POWER issue. When the power is applied to the track, it pushes the rails forward, which causes the W-arm to extend against the strap. It breaks on the bottom just above the strap. See here for detailed explanation: http://www.rx1.info/viewtopic.php?t=6206

3) Nope.

4) Nope.

Well, it is starting to sound like postponing a purchase until 2007 will provide more innovation and less 2006 sales.

I did read your link, interesting, but since bitching doesn't work, maybe empty pockets will.

my 98 srx broke w arm......my o1 srx is still ok, i should check it though.........i believe its the same w arm in all the yammi suspension and yes it should be warrantied or replace free

Hmmmm, not sure, but would consider this a broken arm? That happened just a couple weeks after my sled came off warranty...if the sled wasn't down for a month while the dealer screwed around with the seat issue, it would have broken while still under warranty. Less than a week after the warranty ran out both relay rods broke. Naaaa, couldn't POSSIBLY be a suspension problem... :o|

I am sorry, I read the poll wrong. I thought you were asking if I broke a W arm. I did not, but I can name 5 people that I ride with that has. I do think it is a problem. Yamaha said to a couple of people that they had their suspensions setup wrong and this caused the problem. Good luck, keep us posted.

Just to add fuel to the fire..........I've got over 8,000 on my 03 LE and I weigh 290+ in riding gear. We just had the suspension out last weekend changing the track and I have no signs of any problems with the W arm ;)!

I haven't broke one since my 97 sx but, thought I would take precautions on the RX-1.

I dont know if the warrior ones are stronger or not but ive got 2500 miles on mine.. (bottomed it out hard several times.) and did some jumping with it and it is not broke YET!!

Broke one on my 98 SRX and 03 RX-1 the first year. The last 3000 miles it has been ok. My Dad broke one on his 98 XTC 700. This is one problem Yamaha never truly addressed.
