- 2013 Nytro XTX
So this is my first post along with my first sled purchase. I've rode intermittently throughout my years but have never had a sled of my own. I have narrowed my choices down to a left-over 2014 Viper XTX and a left over 2013 Nytro XTX, both at the same dealer. I realize I can save some money on used, but for various reasons I have decided to go this route. Please don't turn the sled into "buy used for your first ride".
Currently I have a price of $8,400+ tax on the Nytro and $9,800+ tax on the Viper. I believe I could get the dealer down to $7999 on the Nytro if I show up with my trailer and cash in hand. I get the feeling there is less wiggle room on the Viper. Obviously the Viper should hold value more as it is a year newer and current gen sled.
I'm just looking for thoughts on pricing, specifically if the Viper would be worth $1,400 more. My situation is that my wife doesn't truly want me to spend the money on the sled so anywhere I can save a few bucks could give me some bonus points. Also, I will be building a house in summer of 2016 so I may end up wanting to liquidate the sled at that time. . .but that is just a big 'maybe' at this point.
Any other tips when comparing these two sleds? I have done TONS of research so I have the basics of the two units down, both Pros and Cons. One thing I am not sure of, I've seen some grumblings of loosing some of the Yamaha fit and finish on the Viper due to using the Sno Pro chassis. But I haven't gotten a good feeling for if this is true or just perceived. Thoughts?
I'll ask the dealer to snow-check them back to back at the time of purchase to really get a better feel. FYI, I am leaning toward the Nytro.
Thanks!

I rode the 14Viper XTX last Feb during my dealers Yamaha festival. I also noticed he had a beautiful new leftover black 13XTX NYTRO parked in the background. I asked him if I could ride it since the ride of the Viper was fresh in my mind. He said no problem. I liked the NYTRO much better and got a great price on it. 8400 plus 4600 for my 06 Apex GT. Studded it, put duponts on and setup the suspension as per SJ in the XTX suspension tip section. Couldn't be happier. Also quite a bit quicker and faster than the Viper. The NYTRO also gives you that classic Yamaha fit and finish while the Viper is just lets say Arctic Cat!!

I just went thru the same exact thing. Went to the dealer to look at Vipers ended up buying the 2013 Nytro and I'm so glad I did. I thot the viper seemed (cheap looking). I've got 300 miles on her now and I love it, probably the best handling sled ive ridden, they finally fixed the handling issues. To me it's a no brainer, go with the nytro, less money, its a very unique one of a kind sled and it doesn't look like a arctic cat, or any other sled for that matter. Only thing is you have got to do the tunnel block off, ice build up in tunnel is very annoying.

Buy the Nytro and use the savings to MOD the Nytro to your liking.

The nytro will have better value I think.
If you ride slower, and comfort is a big deal, and don't want to maximize value of your purchase get viper.
If you are a pure Yamaha guy, like more speed, reliability, and want to save money I would go with nytro.(I did)

I looked everywhere for XTX suspension tip section? Anyone have a link for SJ setup?

Curious as to why you think the Nytro will hold it's value better? Seems to me a current gen year newer sled would be worth more a few years down the road.
I definitely ride faster and harder. . .to me it is a sport, not a leisurely ride. I am definitely a Yamaha guy (which is why I am here), I have an '04 FZ-6 and '11 R1 in my garage that are the most reliable modes of transportation (barring weather) that I have ever owned! The reliability is a huge factor to me! I don't want to be wrenching on my sled when I should be riding!

I was surprised to see a 10-0 vote in favor of the Nytro. I'm curious if this is because I choose to post this on the Nytro forum and not the Viper board. . . . that may sway the results.

Your going to get the guys on this side of the forum saying NYTRO. And the guys on the other side saying VIPER. In my opinion the guys who switched to the viper are the ones who never found their fit to the NYTRO. Aka they gave up on the sled, blamed it for being top heavy, darting, etc - and were not willing to work with it. I have not ridden a VIPER yet, so I did not vote.

I've put some miles on a 14 viper xtx. Its a good sled and I don't think you'll be disappointed. The nytro may be cheaper but it does take a few hundred dollars for necessary mods. The viper is lighter but also slower (in my experience). I was faced with the same decision as you last spring. I ended up going with another nytro, I think they are just more fun compared to the viper.

I got the Nytro RTX and Viper XTX. the Viper performs a lot better, rides better, all around better sled. The plus of the Nytro is the fit and finish. If buying the Nytro, you will want something like the Mountain Add gas can for extra gas, or trail tank.

Here's another thread asking the same question. Looking for a sled is the fun part, once you have it you have to keep it for awhile.
Have fun with whatever you get.
