I chose the Nytro for personal fit, price and performance. How well it fits you in the most important factor. The $1400 difference will eroded by what the Nytro "needs" to make it right, however I doubt you'll leave the Viper completely stock. Performance should be close enough to call it a wash.

Hahaha. . . I was just thinking the same. How many votes or replies do you need before you decide???????
I went with the Nytro. After testing the Nytro & Viper back to back last night and going through them with a fine tooth comb, I landed on the Nytro.
The reasons:
The Nytro felt like it 'fit' my body better.
To me, the fit and finish on the Nytro seemed way better. . . only time will tell though I suppose.
I couldn't pass up the price ($8,000 + tax, title, registration) and I originally began my search for a sled with used Nytro XTX after tons of research.
With that said, I realize a lot of the short comings on the Nytro, but I know what needs to be done to it to make it better. In all honesty, I couldn't have left the Viper stock either, so to me it becomes a no brainer when ultimately I'll probably put close to same amount of coin in aftermarket parts for either when it is all said and done. I like to make my toys my own, so that was going to cost $$$ on either!
I'm picking her up tonight and we are supposed to get a decent snowfall here between now and the weekend!!!!

Just was in the same position as you. Ended up buying 2013 FX Nytro @ Fuel motorsports 2 weeks ago. Very happy with my choice.

I have spent some time and money on mods on my Nytro to get it where I think is acceptable. I have ridden the Cat 7000 and Viper and although they handle nice my Nytro is not out in left field. I would stack it up against that sled anyday.
Just my 10 cents.

Nice sled. IMO if your mostly a trail rider my 3 main recommended modifications in order would be the Star Suspension Kit w/ center shock spacer (fixes the sag, progressiveness of the rear skid, and limiter strap issue all in one), then the 09+ vector gauge, and then the Yamaheaters (mines a 09, you may not even need this). You won't be disappointed!

I had a new 2012 nytro xtx and put 2600 km on it and thought it was very good. Sold it to my friend and got a apex xtx. Apex hands down a better sled with the eps and the extra 30 horse. I also installed a barker exhaust on the nytro. Awesome sound. Good luck with the nytro

I would go with the Nytro XTX if your serious and will add a Star Rear suspension kit, an new A Arm kit (MountainTech, Skinz or Barecode)

I own both the 2010 Nytro XTX and 2015 Viper STX-DX. The Viper in my opinion, is a better all around sled both in deep powder and trails. It has much better acceleration and stability characteristics both in deep snow and trail conditions. I still ride the Nytro and appreciate how stupid it gets when riding aggressive (you have to work a lot harder on the Nytro versus Viper to operate at the same speed). In simple terms, the Viper handles trails stable and confidently. In the powder, the Viper handles acceleration and predictive control far better than the Nytro and build up in the tunnel, simply non existent.

So this is my first post along with my first sled purchase. I've rode intermittently throughout my years but have never had a sled of my own. I have narrowed my choices down to a left-over 2014 Viper XTX and a left over 2013 Nytro XTX, both at the same dealer. I realize I can save some money on used, but for various reasons I have decided to go this route. Please don't turn the sled into "buy used for your first ride".
Currently I have a price of $8,400+ tax on the Nytro and $9,800+ tax on the Viper. I believe I could get the dealer down to $7999 on the Nytro if I show up with my trailer and cash in hand. I get the feeling there is less wiggle room on the Viper. Obviously the Viper should hold value more as it is a year newer and current gen sled.
I'm just looking for thoughts on pricing, specifically if the Viper would be worth $1,400 more. My situation is that my wife doesn't truly want me to spend the money on the sled so anywhere I can save a few bucks could give me some bonus points. Also, I will be building a house in summer of 2016 so I may end up wanting to liquidate the sled at that time. . .but that is just a big 'maybe' at this point.
Any other tips when comparing these two sleds? I have done TONS of research so I have the basics of the two units down, both Pros and Cons. One thing I am not sure of, I've seen some grumblings of loosing some of the Yamaha fit and finish on the Viper due to using the Sno Pro chassis. But I haven't gotten a good feeling for if this is true or just perceived. Thoughts?
I'll ask the dealer to snow-check them back to back at the time of purchase to really get a better feel. FYI, I am leaning toward the Nytro.
Thanks!
-Jeff
Hands down, I'd go with the Viper XTX. Your going to need to invest in Ski's but, beyond that, the Viper works both powder and trail conditions with confidence. Feels planted and the front end suspension works exceptional.
