Im looking at a couple apexs. I know that the 06 had the monoshock ra rear suspension and the 07 had the newer style rear skid. Were there any specific probems with either model? I am looking at an 07 with 1200 miles and an 06 with 500 miles, for the same price, both mint, 06 has studs, 07 does not but will if I buy it. Which one should I go for?? Is the suspension on the 07 alot better? I liked the monoshock ra in my 05 rx-1 once I put in the stiffer fat boy spring and reinforced the rear arms so they would stop breaking.. the suspension road really good though...
I have the cash, which sled should I get?????
I ride in upstate NY mostly on groomed trails, some rough trails, some lakes, all high speed and I need reliability since I am often more than 30 miles from anything alone.

I was in your exact same shoes last year----I ended up buying the 07 RTX--- First off like all suspensions---check your bolts throught your suspension regulary. I had a bolt fall out mid season and it basically was a chain reaction and I ended up buying new rails, front arm etc. (NOT GOOD!!) Second---whatever you buy 06 or 07 have your shocks revalved to your weight and riding style. (BIG IMPROVMENT!) And studs---144 woodys stainless studs @ 1.450 tall with double and single backers down the middle. This will also help with the overheating issue that allot of fellas talk about. I rode on some rock-hard trails last year and never had an issue. (my buddys REV XP was another story however) And if you ride standing up allot then you might want to consider getting a taller riser (06 had 6" and 07 had 7") I put the apex mountain on mine which is 8" and it is about perfect!! (I am 6') Find yourself a pair of aftermarket skis that you really like and put them on to help eliminate the darting issue and you are about set!! (I have the C&A razors and LOVE them) Other than that ride it trust it and it will get you from point A to point B just as fast as you dare push it!! I put 3120 miles on mine this winter and for the most part(minus suspension which I only noticed about a month ago) it ran absolutely flawless!!! GOOD LUCK WITH WHATEVER YOU BUY!!

Re: Buying an 06 or 07 apex rtx, which should I get? need ad
I have had both sleds back to back years, and we still have the 06 rtx, installed a pair of simmons skis and revaled rear skid, and darn near perfect,my 07 rtx was a problem to get it thru the bumps without bottoming and po going me around,at the time very little had been done on valving for that skid, but today its much better, either have hygear or carver the job and it will be much better,i still liked the top end pull of the 06 compared to the lower geared 07,so its kinda a toss up.shanksyamaha said:Im looking at a couple apexs. I didnt realize the 07 was geared lower. whats the gear difference between the 06 and 07 rtx?? Can I swap out gears in the 07 to make it the same as an 06. I run alot of lakes and I like long legged sleds...
you could just take my Attak off my hands........$6

Everyone I have talked to about the 07 RTX has been pretty unhappy with the handling and ride. The shocks are pretty stiff and has handling issues. I think I would go with the Attak or Apex.

the 07 runs a 22 top and the 06 was either a 24 or 25 not 100% sure. There is little things about both years that people don't like. It's all on preference.

Yup 07 22/38 gearing 06 24/38 for gears,i geared my 07 up but it killed it on the trails and still only gained 2 mph on bare ice,my 06 did and still runs 118 gps on ice and 110 gps on snow, but my 07 before studding ran 112 gps snow and same on ice,and handled like crap and the ride was not that good, compared to the 06 rtx.shanksyamaha said:I didnt realize the 07 was geared lower. whats the gear difference between the 06 and 07 rtx?? I think I would def. like the 06 better than. I like to run high speed on the lakes and I really liked the way the mono shock ra rode on my 05 rx-1.
the 06 rtx has 1300 miles on it and the 07 rtx has only 300 on it. the 06 has been very well cared for by its only owner and the 07 I dont know the history on. They are the same price.....
I think even though the 06 is older and it has more miles I would like it better so I think thats the one Im gunna go for...
