I am looking to get used sled a 08 Nytro mountain can I make it in to a good trail sled what changes would be needed or should I just keep looking for a 09 XTX

the 08 mtx is a handfull as a full on trail sled. can it be done, i am sure it can but, i have been on this sled for 2 seasons now and it is a handfull on the trail.
the 08 shorty nytros were skidish and twitchy, the mtx on the trail in stock form with a narrower front end than the shorty's compounded the problem.
i have played with the supension, shocks, toe, camber, weight transfer, skis, sway bar in, sway bar out... you name it i tried it.
i have finally got the sled to be "ok" on the trail and i am more comfortable with it but, it is not a stellar trail unit by any means. offtrail and reliability wise it is the best sled i have owned but, the trail manors keep me from giving it a full two thumbs up.
in hindsight, i would buy an xtx and put straight rails and a 2.25" track in it to get the better front end. or i might have went with the rtx se shorty, and stretched it to 144 with a 2.25" track.
i know it might not be what you wanted to hear, but that is my .02. again i have mine where i like it now but, it took two full seasons of pulling my hair out. more times than not i was ready to light the thing on fire.
i still have it for sale but i am not pushing the sale hard as i really do like the sled for the most part. good luck in whatever you decide. ski

Bought mine wrecked for 2500 have just at 1000 in parts. 3500 have damn nice sled and you wouldnt even know that it was ever wrecked,and only 570 miles. I have put the standard wider a-arms. Had ski doo skis with 6 inch carbides on hard pack and corned awsome no complaints.But the long 153 is to much. So still deciding on what to do there. Maybe wait till haydays maybe find a suspension?.

change the skid, change the gears, might have to go wider on the front end it can be done. or just ride it - see lots of mt sleds on the trail.

I had a 08 MTX and tried everything to try and make it a decent trail sled while keeping it good in the deep stuff....in the end I just sold it and bought a XTX and love the thing!!

I will just swap the suspension out if anything else. Not hard to convert. Already have the wider front a-arms.
