Get rid of the stock control rods and put on a MPI transfer enhancement kit. That skid just doesn't cut it in the stock setup for any kind of holeshot, oh the addition of a hair dryer will help win those races, Ken.
1.5 is still kinda long for drags.
23-40 with 8 tooth drivers is like 19-38 with 9 tooth drivers. Stock RX1 is 24-38 @ 9tooth. You're geared WAY too low to drag against shorties, that'll spin like mad off the line and overrev significantly on the top. No hope. Bring your gearing up to 26-40/25-38 and you might have a chance. What this will do is reduce the torque coming off the line, which should let you hook up, AND, it'll keep your RPMs down at the top end, which might get you bigger top end numbers (if thats at all an issue).
Clutch it for low engagement with the short springs and a aggressive shifting weight with small rollers PM me I can get you details and do at least the transfer-kit. In snowdrags my RX1 mountain kicks #*$&@ I use a HOLZ skid, it transferes weight perfect no spin all go.
Check your front limiter straps. Mine came pulled almost all the way up to try and save the hyfax. It was way squirrelly in the rear end. Let it most of the way out and even on hardpack it just hooks and goes. I also have the mpi transfer kit, but getting some of the weight off the skis will help traction. Your next problem will be ratcheting.
