I am replacing all three chaincase bearings and had a question about the seals on the bearings themselves. Should I remove both of the side seals on each bearing or just the inner ones to allow oil in?

topic of debate here but from the factory only the iner one is removed and it is belived that oil will be able to get in but not metal shavings.

Thanks thor. I was thinking of just removing the inner one. I figured leaving the outer one in would help the separate oil seal do its job and help to prevent leaking. As long as the oil can still easily flow around the ball bearing race it should work well.

by in side i mean twards the drivers the side you see when it is installed stays in the bearing.

Just to clarify, there are two bearings on the left side (as sitting on the seat) of the chaincase, one upper and one lower, and one on the right side, just an upper.
I was going to remove the inner seal from all three bearings. This would be the side facing inward on the chaincase facing the oil for all three bearings.
Does that make sense?

that would be fine the gnly one from the factory that has a seal is the lower one as it sits where the metal fileings fall due to gravity not sure if others should be left in as some only see as much oil as the chain brings up.

If your bearings come with both sides sealed, I would leave them sealed, there should be enough oil inside of them to last the life of the bearing.
