I was cleaning my fx up and checked the oil in the chaincase it was milky. I opened the chaincase and took the lower bearing out it is junk. It was full of water and rust. Looks like the seal is on the wrong side. Anyone else with this problem?

Most people have been having trouble with the speedo and jackshaft bearings on the other side. I dont agree with what yamaha is doing with the chaincase bearing. If I am correct the seal is preventing the oil from getting to the bearing and leaving the other side of it wide open to the elements. What I would do is buy a new bearing and drill some very tiny holes in the seal going to the oil side of the bearing so it gets lubricated. Makes no sense not to lubricate that bearing even if it is a chaincase and leave the other side of the seal on. Change your oil to full synthetic and change it every season. You will never change that bearing again for years. While your at it pull your side seals off the bearings on the secondary and speedo bearing check and if still good clean them out and repack with a good quality grease.

Everybody is going to sealed bearings in everything. It makes no sense at all. I found out that eaton is going to sealed bearings in the truck front ends they make. I'm talking 12000 lb axels. What is wrong with the good old gear lube in the hub type set up. To damn many greenies in the world forcing this sh1t down everyones throat. Maxdlx

I am going to just turn it around like the top one is, seal to the outside oil on the inside. Like every other yamaha I have is done.

You have to be kidding about the orientation of the seal! I am going to look tonight. I cant believe the would put the seal on the "tunnel" side!
