Running without bolt for 1000 miles and worry free!!!
How did you manage to get the chaincase back together? As far as I can see, that's the only real reason for the bolt.

Reverse fork in right position, put outside side collar in bearing position and spring only has one place to go, my thoughts are the torque wants to flex this area, so let it flex and let the bearings do their job. If we think that 10mm bolt is going to carry any torque to that outside bearing we are nutzz.. The collar and bearing are one big old spring positioner...( not sure if that is a word)..

Oh I agree with you 100%, the bolt is not doing anything, but it sure does make that chaincase easier to put back together.

Another 500 miles bolt would have worn through cover..

Bolt was half way through my cover at 1800 miles. Looked like 5/8" drill was at it.

Did your bolt back off or break off?

I saw it in person, didn't like it
bolt free 2500 miles, I have had the case apart quite a few times and I don't think its hard at all without the bolt. But I have never put it together with one.
No its not right, But it works and I have not had any issues at all to make me want to change it.
