I did some clutching changes etc on my stock 2003 RX1 Mountain motor, and changed the needle settings and main jets to what they should be for my area (went from 135 to 130 main and needles up 1 clip position to #2 spot, washer on top, one below)
It was a pig to try and start, finally put my hand over each carb to get it to fire, and now it idles a bit high, and when you touch the throttle, it wants to pop and backfired once. I left the air screws alone, stock setting. It also seems like the mag side cylinder runs the worst, spits back a little. Is there anything I could have done wrong putting the bowls on, needles?
I also put on a 2" riser block, but cable seems fine.

high idle is a sign of being lean. ur mains shouldn't effect idle id check ur pilots make sure they are not gummed up. id also make sure the carbs are in the boots tightly if they rent they could be sucking air causing a lean condition. also could do a leak test. spray some carb cleaner around the carbs and see if the sled revs up if it does u have leaky carb boot.

Thanks Terret......I got it! Called a buddy and it was the 2" riser, put too much tension screwed up the throttle override. Adjusted the air screws to where they should be, still ran the same, then removed the riser and PRESTO! It's one of those things, but it runs silky smooth now, so will look into a longer cable. Thanks anyway.

Should be able to run a 2" riser easy. Their is a rivit on the bottom of the handlebars that you can knock off that will allow your bars to rotate forward. This will fix your problem!
