My right gripwarmer quit today and I am wondering how do you change the element? I notice the grip has a rivot on it, do you have to drill this out and also is it glued on and requries a heat gun to loosen. Thanks in advance for your help.

I drilled out the rivet then got the exacto knife out and cut them off in 2 seconds, you cant reuse the grips anyway so just cut em, get new grips and heaters together, yammie has the RSI kit for sale.
Two rivits on each grip, cut and peel off. Clean off the bars then install new ones.

I read on here that elements rarely burn out and it is usually a problem with the wires, like the hand warmer is not getting power.
Both of mine went out the same weekend. The hook end of the grips worked it's way loose then from it twisting the elements broke.

My right one went out on our week long trip. cut the wires close to the grip today to check the resistance and the heater is toasted, it went open. I did whack that side against a tree earlier that week and now I wonder if that helped it along by pinching it. The OEM heaters are actually cheaper in Canada too.

I drilled out rivets and twisted them back and forth and saved both..Once the glue gives you're good.

Is it possible to get the grip off without damaging the element? I would like to put on rsi gel grips on but don't want to replace the actual heaters and the old grips need to come off.

I used a blow gun in the end hole and a little twisting, they came off with no trouble. Drill both rivets, one on top and on underneath first and plug end hole in opposite hand grip. There was no visible damage to the heaters but I was geting rid of mine anyway, never did get any heat from them. hoping for better luck with the RSI heaters.
