Is it possible to test headlights via the diagnostics mode without having to fire up the sled? Wanting to check a headlight but as you know with these four strokes, to do that means letting the machine warm up to full temp before shutting down so thought maybe there was another way to do this without starting the machine. Didn't see anything in the FAQ or my search results so thought I would pose the question.
You can use a jumper from the battery to the headlight fuse. I did this when I installed my HID kit

Thanks steiner, didn't think of that. Am troubleshooting a patch job I had to do to one my HIDs but was trying to avoid having to start sled due to needing them to run long enough before shutting down. Had the heat on in my garage and didn't want to have to open garage door if I didn't have to but ended up doing so anyway so while I troubleshooted the issue with my headlight. For future reference, are you saying to just take a jumper lead from the + side battery and run to headlight fuse as a way to power the headlights? Sounds easy enough but wanted to check.
Yes. I used a short jumper wire with alligator clips on both ends and a small cotter pin. Open the cotter pin up and slide one end into "light "side of the fuse. Connect the jumper wire to the cotter pin and the red battery lead.
Lights powered without running the sled. There is a pic of this that I posted some years back on Roc's post about HID kits.
