I have a clunking noise on my primary clutch if i give it gas just about when it will engage and then let off it will clunk . Can it be a broken spring ? The machine still takes off well and hits about 10500 on the rpm guage.

sounds normal to me. the noise is the spring opening the clutch when the rpm drops, just as you described.

Are you sure it's not the play in the secondary you are hearing?

Hmm, I have never heard a clunk in mine, and have 5500 miles on it.....sounds like it's sticking. Maybe it's time to ask a professional (Russ), he will probably tell you to take it apart and check weights, check the bushing and replace the spring.

Definitely look inside the primary, take it apart and see. Could be a broken spring, maybe worn bushings or weights. You don't want to let that continue and cause damage, or worse, injury.
When is the last time you serviced/cleaned the clutches?

Maybe even the clutch bolt is loose or broken.

Im believing the sticking idea...Ive taken some apart that would barely close from belt pitch built up in the towers...after cleaning smooth as silk!
