Heard a repetetive clunk clunk clunk the other day, lifted the track and it went away. I assumed there was ice built up while we were eating lunch. a 1/4 mile after pulling away i realized I had no speedo and the odometer was not working. also code 42 was flashing. when I let off the throttle all the way and get back into it. code 84 flashes and the tors limits rpm t0 3000 rpm until I let it idle all the way down and it runs per normal until I let off and the tors engages again. After riding home like that ( I never let all the way off so I never saw code 84 again and just ignored 42 because all seemed o.k. upon returning to home I pulled the hood and side panel on clutch side. The speedo drive is snapped in 1/2 and the cog bearing looks like it is not there?? I will be pulling this apart tonite, but I was hoping someone could tell me what code 42 and 84 are.

3200 miles, I am hoping that the speedo not being there is telling the cpu to limit throttle and I have'nt hurt anything else.

There is a sensor in the speedo pickup that will even make the engine shut right off. If you take the belt off and run iteven wide open nothing will happen and all will seem fine. Put the belt back on and she will shut down. You can even have grease and stuff get into the teeth on the end of the shaft and if the speedo sensor does not count teeth it senses a problem. Replace the bearing and you should be good to go.

Code 84 is tors and 42 is a problem with the speed sensor. Read your owners manual and it will tell you if there is a problem with you speedometer your throttle overide system will activate. I'm thinking it must have something to do with a safety issue.

Thanks guys,

I do not have my manual with me. The speed sensor is broke off of its perch. I ordered a new one. I hope I find the set screws loosened up and the bearing moved inward. If not I ordered a new one anyways. I know this is probably not good to brag about, but here goes. After the bearing moved or failed, and the speed sensor broke I was 80 miles from home. She took all 80 miles in stride. the bearing holder is not even worn. I would not recomend doing it, but if I realized what failed I would have been in a hotel and waiting for the cavalry to ride home 80 miles and come back for me.... Not so good although I was thirsty and there were plenty of bars there. The sled broke in gorham new hamphire and it made it all the way home to harrison maine with no problems except warning codes and I kept seeing floating dollar signs every time I blinked.

I found a list of codes here and all will be well shortly. thanks to all who helped with all of it. Ride on :yam:

Code 42 came up first as the speed sensor was not reading. The 84 tors follows the 42. My guess is it keeps people from unhooking the speed sensor and putting 0 miles on the sled.
