OK...I have a 2006 Vector with 1000 miles and the clutch side primary sheave has about a .010" to .020" wear area near the middle. These are mainly trail miles. Is this normal? All stock sled. Thanks Guys

You mean a grove where the belt rides and a little above?
Many have these groves and I had them on my 04 Warrior.
Yamaha replaced the worn clutch parts for me under warrenty--good will.

Let me explain....if you would place a straight edge across the the clutch face you can see an area about the width of the belt that is worn in the face about .015". As you run your finger across the face you can feel it. What is causing this? It would almost appear the belt is too hard. Stock belt.

These machines are normally good for a few thousand klicks on the belts. Get your offset checked. Also, does the belt squeel, or do you have any abnormal clutch noise?? There's a slider update kit available from Yamaha for the RS models with regards to the drive clutch, and the driven may need to be re-shimmed.

My son's Nitro is doing the samething. Called the dealer and they said was probably normal. I say BS! I have never seen this unless there was an issue. Alignment is within spec. and belt is Yamaha's stock belt. I have a feeling it's bad castings.

is it right towards the center of the clutch? down by the shaft? if so its fairly normal. ive seen it on 90% of sleds ive seen more then a few years old. its caused by the sled idling and the first moment of engagement where the belt is slipping. did i mention im a sled mechanic so i work on a 6 sleds or more a week.

My 05 vector did it. They changed it when I took it in for the clutch rattle recall. Guess what.. Yup!!!!!!! Now this one is doing it.. Same place,I think all the clutches for these things are too soft. MM.

It's worn in the middle maybe slightly towards the shaft. I ride with a SRX that has 4500 miles and the sheave looks new. I had an MXZ with 6500 miles and no problems. A Firecat we ride with has 3500 miles no problems. At this rate at 2000 miles I will have a serious problem.
All the RS i know does that:

The one on the image had 5000km. At 15000 km, it was only worst. Also, a bad notch develop on the ramp, right in the middle.
Resonnance that is.......
I am experimenting a totally new clutch curve to avoid that.. well; really because i like it. i started with new facing + new ramp, now 2000 km and no sign of wear.

OK....the offset on the Vector and Nitro is suppose to be .53" to .65". On our sleds the offset measures .65". This could cause it?? I am going to set the offset in the sweet spot and see what happens. I still believe theres an issue with Yamaha castings.
