What should the side clearance be between the belt and the sheave of the primary. If I remember on my Polaris sleds we would shoot for 10 thousands.
I have 600 miles on my belt on my 05 RX1. The sides or the belt are starting to go with some threads coming out. I did not measure, but the clearance between the belt and primary sheave is huge. I am sure it is from the belt being worn. I did not notice any performance difference.

Also the bottom of my primary sheaves have a groove in them. It was like that when I bought the sled used. My friends 03 RX1 has the same problem. Anything to worry about?

Thanks

The side belt clearance is pretty large from the factory. Mine was near 1/8"

It makes the engagement kinda "grabby".
Had a friend make me some spacers/washers that go under the mounting bolt to adjust the belt deflection (clearance).
I made it .015"
(Allen Ulmers(Ulmer Racing) great idea! Allen is great!)

The "groove" is also from the factory. it is normal.
It is actually more like a "bulge" down low and just above it, it looks like a groove.

The clutch is coated with some type of "hardcoat".
It is a slightly grey color, if you have no shiney aluminum showing, it's still the hardcoat and you have little to no wear. ;)!

Hope this helps!

belt side clerance

the proper way to ajust belt side clearance on a yamaha clutch with out screwing up your wight under tuck is to use differnt c clips. i have only seen haulk selling these but if you have some time and take down tools you can do like i do and make your own. taking the side clerance down is like free hp i like to run no more than .020 and .015 if i can get it. this way i can still play with the tuck under if i need to with out buggering up my shift patern.

Thanks for the info.
I will get a new belt and ck the clearance. If is is out of spec then we will break it down and adjust.

black john, what is tuck under?
