Ok here is a flatland (under 1000') question. i'm currently using the stock secondary set-up. Question is for the primary. I have the OEM arms loaded with 4.5 rivits in all three holes. I seem to be getting some slipage at times, enough that most likely because of heat I'm pulling out the cords from the outside of the belt on the moveable side. (OEM Yamaha Belts). If I lighten up the weights on the inside holes will that give me more squeeze?? Someone recommended the Arctic Yellow at 2/3. I take it that that is a stiffer lateral spring?
That sounds like a bit much weight on the primary. How are your Max RPM's?
How do the temp's on each clutch compare? Is one MUCH hotter than the other?

I haven'tbeen able to shoot the faces for temp yet, but rolling at20 mph and doing a full stab it will over-rev to 9000-9100 then settle down to about 8500-8600. Thats why I'm thinking that the belt is sliping during those over-rev spikes.MotoPsycho said:That sounds like a bit much weight on the primary. How are your Max RPM's?

bodi, with the stock weights, you might try the cat yellow, or the cat red/white secondary springs. if you use the red white, you will only have it in 0 and 1 for spring twist. this will hold the motor back alittle, help with backshift and really help with secondary belt slip. they both have more lateral force than the yamaha springs.
i think the stockers with having little profile curvature and alot of weight, way over power the yamaha secondary springs. this is what i think is creating a slipping issue in the secondary on the mtxs.
i ran the cat red/white last year, and it is still in the wife's mtx. now i have lighter supertip set up with more aggressive profile. i am running the pink and white yamaha springs, and i dont have near the belt slip i did last year.
hope this helps. ski

I'm running the HH's down to about 55 grams right now and I think I'm going to pull another 3 grams or so as I'm only getting 8300 on a pull. I also have the Cat yellow spring at 0 1 as well as 14.5 rollers. The Heavy Hitters have quite a curve to them hence the lighter weight. My problem does not seem to be getting the revs,I'm sure I can do that, what I want to see is the belt travelling all the way up the primary so I can get some more track speed. Currently I'm still running the stock 39 degree helix and the belt is about 5/8" of an inch from the top. I've been riding my turbo sled exclusively this season so I need more testing time on the Nytro.

I am running supertips and running the 50 gram weights with a tungsten in the heal and one washer in the mid and tip spaces eacy.. total of 58 grams...
If you run out of available weight reduction, drop your 14.5mm rollers for the larger ones.
I don't think you will be able to get the primary to shift all the way out as that would be around 80 mph trackspeed with the gearing that you have....

I have 19 40. I'm going to finish tuning with this setup then see if it'll pull the 20 40 gearing.

I am running 18 - 42 and seeing around 48-49 MPH at 8500-8700 rpms in kind of setup snow. I am thinking that when I get my clutching nailed, I should hopefully see 50 mph. We shall see though. I was previously seeing 44-45 mph in hardpack..
The changes I have made are gearing, from 19-40, the supertips and a lighter preload primary spring, (didn't do squat do to the supertips... arghhh) and an exhaust with stock header rework...
I wish I could go lower still on the gearing.... more then 70 mph on the flats is a waste...

ruff, rx what are your elevations?
i am finding you have to remove or ad ALOT of weight on the super tips to see a change.
rx if you cant get within 3/8" of the top of the primary with 19-40, 20-40 will be worse. sounds like you are over geared.
i am running supertips with tungston and 4 washers in the heel, mid empty and tip with one on each side. i am running this at 600-2000 feet. i am still under reving just a bit on hard pack with this set up. gonna remove some more weight. probably from the heel.
at 8000 feet + i am running the supertips completely empty. ski

In all fairness to the sled the only days I've run it this year have been over the hood deep so quite a challenge for any sled really. I'm sure it'll pull more in setup conditions. When my 102 lb son rides it he doesn't even need to pin it ever it just tractors along. Once the snow sets up I'll be running the Nytro more myself. We ride from 6 - 9000 ft usually right around 7000. I realise the 20 40 would be taller but if it can pull it and get the belt to the top it'll ultimately make more track speed. The question is can I get all the other parts in balance enough to allow the taller gearing.
I guess I'd have to try it but 18 42 seems pretty short, no problems getting the rpms to hold but isn't it just screaming all the time?

What rollers are you using? I am at 4-6k elevation.

The rpms are higher, but they are the same at wot anyways (like they should be) and that is where most of my riding takes place. I can still cruise at around 60-70 mph, but I don't like to be riding that fast on the trails anyways. I think a quicker shift out at low throttle setting would negate some of that effect, but at what cost I don't know...
I am still trying to figure out how to get my engagement down.... I want it to be right around 3k or a little lower. Though I need to verify my belt height on my secondary first.

What size? Stock on the MTX is 16.5, I was thinking about going to 14.5 to get a lower engagement.. but the increased shifting force will require me to remove weight..
Have you played with secondary spring settings? I have noticed that the secondary does have an effect on final shift out rpm.... Might be a means of getting your rpms where you want them while still having some adjustability in the super tips...

This is generally because of clutch misalignment...
