I picked up an '06 apex the other day. It works really nice, but is topping out at 98-100 mph on the speedo. It will go from 0 to about 85 mph in just a few seconds, then creep up from there. I'm not sure which clutch kit is in it, but it uses little magnets. Does anybody have a quick adjustment of these magnets to get me more top speed? I don't really care if I lose some bottom, as it has a ton.
sorry if this is in another thread somewhere. if it is, please just redirect me there. thanks

It is only around 10,000 or maybe 10,200 right at the top. I'd like to bring it up 500-600 rpms. I'm kind of a newbie at doing this myself, so looking for a bit of help. thanks
You will need to take weight out of the tip. You should be at 10,800 in ideal snow conditions.
Never seen magnets in the clutch weights before. Post a pic of them. Would be interesting to see

each little arm the weights go in,(not sure what they are called, lol), have 4 holes up the length of them. the kit came with a sleeve of little magnets, that I believe, are 1.3 grams each....each of the 4 holes in that little arm will hold up to 3 magnets. I'm getting this from reading up on one that looks similar to what I have.
So if I get what you are saying, I could pull one magnet out of the hole closest to the tip, maybe even one out of the next hole and it should bring the rpms up.
I'm going out for a 2 day run in a few minutes here, so will try a few different setups while I'm out.....and try to get a pic for you when I get back.

I just tried it today on better snow conditions and got to 110 mph on the speedo pretty quick......yesterday was softer, but it was cold overnight, so soft conditions would make it slower....however, even at 108-110, it was still right on 10,000 rpms. I will try the weight removal later.
something else weird.......when I got this it had the Ultimax belt on it. I just took that off and put on a brand new Yamaha belt and it won't even move it....just sits there and smokes it. Put the Ultimax back on and it goes like crazy. does this make any sense to anyone? could it just be a bad belt from Yamaha? I know the yammy belts are harder, but still it should move the sled. it would take it to about an inch from the top of the primary, then just sit there and smoke.

are you sure your secondary was closed all the way after changing the belt? You need to rotate the belt clockwise so the driven or secondary clutch closes up and puts the belt to the top of the shiv's. that is the only way the belt could get near the top of the primary and not be moving.trlong said:I just tried it today on better snow conditions and got to 110 mph on the speedo pretty quick......yesterday was softer, but it was cold overnight, so soft conditions would make it slower....however, even at 108-110, it was still right on 10,000 rpms.
