Clutching for MTX

Got to use my MTX today and no way can i use the clutching it came with when running the prairies. I will have to run stock fo rmountains and find something else around here.

Elevation is 900 to 2500'. What is recommended. Seemed to be topping out at around 105 kph at 9400 rpm. I have in hand stock nytro xtx weights and spring, super rats and black HC spring. I like the low engagement for technical riding around here so would like to keep that. What would be best for weights? Also what is the gearing on the new MTX's? 18tooth top gear? I ran 20 on xtx. Dont really want to be changing the gears all the time. Prefer to just change weights.

The gearing should be 22/40 if the sled was set up at a low elevation dealer. If not it should be 18/40. Either one I would change to 20/40 and that should work everywhere for you. Clutching, for the flatlands you're going to need to get it to upshift quicker for the track spin that you don't experience in deep snow. I would check gearing and get a RTX/XTX helix in there for starters, then see where you're at. Stock pink secondary spring should work.

Thanks Rick. If I change the gearing my xtx weights should work then I would presume? If I remember stock on the xtx was a 21 tooth top gear.

If you change to those weights, make sure you change the rollers too. Those weights may very well work good for you but they have 15.6mm rollers when the MTX came with 16.5mm. But be sure to run like a 43 degree helix to help it shift.

I am in about 2000 ft elevation range, I just switched my mtx from stock clutching and gearing from a 18 upper to a 20 tooth upper and the stock 40 tooth lower, did not need to change the drive chain either, then swtiched the stock mtx helix to the 43 degree xtx helix, filled factory weights with the 17.2 gram yamaha rivets, no more overrev and works great. All springs are stock, helix is set at 3-3. Rick recommended this setup and it works great. Then to go to mountains you just need to swap your helix and your good to go.
