I believe that the only difference between the two are that the 05 coils are bolted to the cam cover.Don't qoute me on that.

the 05 coils are not bolted on, the 06 and newer are. the difference is the wire clip inside the coil that contacts the plug, better design after 03. all coils will work better when dirt and carbon dust are cleaned off, reducing the chance of arcing or missfires.

Use di - electric grease on the inside of the boot before placing it back on the spark plug that will take care of the arching.

It would be about the same as a 2-smoke with a bad plug.

so what will i need to clean on my 2003 coils? the inside of the coils and inside the holes on the heads? this explains alot because i didnt have a clue of what was going on ith my sled when she could only get 120kph and she went back to normal again gettin around 170-180. all it was is carbon inside of the coils. would this cause the sled to run like she dont have all of her power? what is the difference between the 2003 and the 2004 or 2005 rx1 coils? would they just plug into the wires that the 03 coils pluged into or is it all new coil wiring or just the coils that unplugs?

Coils will swap directly, but be aware -- very expensive.
The main thing to clean is the contact up inside the coil. You need it to have good contact with the plug.

arching
I fired my 05 up the other day and noticed little sparks on all four right where the coil contacts the valve cover when they are pushed in, I guess this is what people are refering to as arcing??? Is this resolved by simply cleaning the coils?
Thanks

arcing
Yes, I noticed mine doing ther same the other night...Would the dielectric grease around the edge that covers the valve cover do the trick?

Re: arcing
No you have to take them off and clean the contact area very well I would use a spray on contact cleaner and dieletric grease on the inside then reinstall. Then see how it is.

If you have the extended warranty take it to your dealer. Mine were replaced under warranty last month no issues with my 05 this was on the 03.
