I have an 03 RX-1 and one of the coils is arcing at the top of the boot (flange) to the head/valve cover, what can I do to fix this problem?
I have heard of some people using dielectric grease?
Also some people are installing 05 coils, what is the difference between the 03 coils and the 05 coils?
Thanks!

Better insulation. Take the plugs out and clean them check gap and install. Put dielectric grease on the outside tip of the plug and place cap & boot on. Should fix the problem if does not get new caps.

You need a new coil. Once it burns through the side and starts grounding out to the head your done. The 03 coils had problems, they changed them in 04. Eric

I aggree, although I never had a problem with my coils on my sled, I am an ASE Certified auto mechanic and there is no 'fix' for an arcing coil on an automobile. Similar coils so I'd replace the bad coil and throw a set of plugs in it while you are there. Die electric on all of the coils is a good practice when replacing coils and/or plugs.

So on a 05 this isn't a problem? I should have paid more attention to this side for the past 4 years. Maxdlx

I would still remove all 4 coils and clean them and apply dielectric grease inside the boot where the spark plugs goes in and also at the top around the outside of the boot to help seal out water. Eric

check your spark plugs
make sure the top of your plugs where the cap connects to is not worn a grove in the plug,i had that problem, when i put the new plugs in i also used a tie wrap to hold the wire to one of the tubes that run nearby. this helped stop vibration to the plugs

Clean them up well (coils) ,carefully REMOVE metal sleeve, use dielectric (inside boot) not TOO much, check or replace plugs. should be good to go
