Contacting Bergstrom

Looks like teflon or some kind of plastic.

I have a new set I keep for spares I could send you, let me know. I only live 3 miles from Bergstrom's shop.

Just wondering what kind of material these ski savers are made from?
It looks like a rather straightforward design and I was thinking about making a set from teflon. I see some people have homemade ones listed in their updates but don't say what material is used. What do you think?

Tks,

UHMW the same stuff your sliders are made from.

Teflon would work too easy enough to make a pair. Wait for triple poinst but could make own skisavers no problem.

They have a half round groove down the center of them for the skeg to sit in. Unless you have a router already set up to cut a groove in a strip of UHMW, it don't look like it is worth the effort for what you can buy them for.

Thanks to Viper Dave, I was finally able to connect with Scott Bergstrom. Scott is a terrific guy, willing to answer all my questions. He would not take my order until he was sure he was selling me exactly what I needed. He talked me out of a more expensive sale to sell me just what I needed. I really appreciate his honesty and interest. He just needs to hire a person to take the orders.

Skisavers do three important things. One, save wear and tear on your skis. I drove a set of Slydog skis Over 4000 miles When I took off the last set of skisavers the ski keel looked brand new! Two, Skisavers can help reduce tracking. Three, By experiementing with different height skisavers you can actually fine tune how much wearbar is affecting your steering and amount of "bite" up front.

Best time to reach Scott is first thing in AM. He's a great guy. Backs his product 100%. Also, knows more about how wearbars work then ten other industry experts. His products are hand made not. mass produced. If his wearbars don't outlast anything esle on the market I'll buy you dinner on Drummond Island MI! George.

Studdog,

I agree completely!! We need to keep guys like Scott in business!!!

Thanks for the replies and info.

Yeah they are a bit of effort to make if I was close by I would buy them but cannot wait for a month to get them. Anyway the Shaper bar has a flat surface so I think the plastic/teflon can be grooved with a dado blade on a table saw to accept the bars.

Why do you need the ski savers anyways....what are the pros and cons?

Cons:

I found that they added a lot of drag and reduced my gas mileage. I also found that they caused some push going into the corners. I removed them and now run the triple points without ski savers.

Depending on the height skisaver your using, if you you use a taller skisaver you have less wearbar on the snow thus more push less bite. Your correct, that you'll have more bite without and that may be best for your setup. I've run with and without and have not noticed any more drag or fuel usage. For questions about skisavers and wearbars I suggest people call Scott, He's the expert, and won't BS you to sell his products. George

Is this the same Bergstorm that is Rockford IL? If in fact it is one in the same, and he has a pick up there, I would be happy to pick up any orders for anyone thats going to be in munising for the ride this upcoming weekend. Just let me know before Wed as I am heading north to MI early on Wed.
