Putting heavy studs in my t-rx1 and I'm wondering what good or bad experience people have had with spraying on the copper coating. I don't think it could hurt, but I don't want to have to tear it apart this winter.

Both OEM and Aftermarket multilayer steel gaskets already have a coating on them, I recommend to install them dry, and follow my torque proceedures.

The spray coating will squeeze out and get into everything.

Make absolutly sure the head and block surfaces are Clean, Flat, and Smooth like a babies bottom.

Ted.

Agreed,do not coat the gasket.I'll go even further by saying that you need to clean the head and block with lacquer thinner.Be sure to check the surfaces to be staight within .001".Glue the studs into the block with red locktight and let it set up overnight then torque the head in steps to 45lbs.The head gasket is the most important gasket on your engine. If you pay special attention to these measures, you'll have good results.

I sure wish I would have asked this question before I sprayed it. Is there any way of getting the copper spray off without damaging the coating that it came with. I'm running a wiseco head gasket and they're like $75 each. :o|

What about the head spacer guys, I was told by Dave at powderlites to use the copper stuff on my split gasket with headshim.

900 miles boosted on new motor and no problem as of yet, hope it stays that way.

When you split the stock gasket, you will notice that only one side of one half is not coated. this is because it mates to the other half that is already coated.when using a spacer I spray the copper coating only on the uncoated half. I clean up all aluminum surfaces with thinner or acetone then assemble.

Do you think that I will have problems with the copper spray or should I just put it together and not worry about it? Has anyone had head sealing problems related to the combination of factory coating and copper spray.

ok, now jlasko57 has me second guessing myself. The more I think about it I might have just coated the shim itself and not the gasket, but not real sure LOL.

Either way 900 miles and no problems however I did it.

Head shim coat I did on my rx1 mtn blower.

Works like a champion....but only 9-10 psi of boost....
