My 05 RX-1 ER is 100% stock and I always wanted to do something with the clutching. With 2500 kms on it, its at 9700 rpm shortly after take off (WOT) and it slowly climbs to just a hair under 10,300 (around 10,275?).
Last night I installed a set of CR10EK plugs and went for a spin.
Right away I could feel it pulling harder and even better throttle response.
What's really surprizing is now shortly after take off it's right at 10,300 rpm - pulling like mad, and it climbs to just under 10,400 at higher speeds (didn't have a chance to go much over 80 mph - was dressed for wrenching, not sledding).
I find it hard to believe the plugs would make that much difference. The temps were down about 10°C from when I was last running the CR9E's, so that might be part of the reason.
Whatever made all the improvement, last night this thing was running fantastically with the CR10EK's. I probably won't touch the clutching unless I install an ECP kit.

I noticed the same thing when I changed the original CR9E's for new CR9E's. Starts easier, throttle snappier, etc.

I had already tried a set of new CR9E plugs and it made no difference at all.
LB, what plugs do you run?

I think he meant a fresh set of the same plug.

You know I'm glad you said that, as I thought the same thing. Changed out the original plugs for new ones and Bingo better results.
I even feel they are the same as the CR10EK's, as I keep going back and fourth between the two tweaking the ECP Kit.

I've never really believed different plugs make much difference (never in my past have I seen any noticable difference).
I almost bought a set of CR10E plugs - just one heat range colder (I have seen colder plugs make more power - especially when working a motor very hard).
----but, after reading all of the posts here, I figured I'd try the expensive ($60 cdn for 4) CR10EK's. So far they seem great.
The 2nd set of CR9E's were only in for about 1000 kms and the motor was spinning 96-9700 lower speed WOT rpms right from the day I installed them.
I'll post a follow up after a few miles (and warmer temps).

For the record, anybody in the states that wants CR10EK's (2360 ngk stock#) Advance Auto has them for under $6.00 each.

Supertuner gave a great explanation why a colder plug will deliver more power. Do a search if you need more info.HYERUP said:why not use the original heat range?-

With a turbo there's even more reason to run a colder plug.

I couldn't find a single autoparts store that carries them around here.

Do I have to say "I told you so"?
