Can anyone tell me the difference between the NGK CR9EKB and the CR9EK? What does the "B" stand for? I have a new set of the CR9EK for my Yamaha FZ1 and physically they look identical.

NGK Website says Special Design for the firing end. Must be the 4 electrodes on it.

I have read before that it has to do with the part that the coil plugs into, but I am not 100% sure.

Both plugs have dual electrodes and they look exactly the same. My local supplier wants $11.50 a plug and I sure wouldn't mind using the FZ1's plugs, I have four of them!

You get the hero cookie! Did some more research and your right. The difference is on the end of the plug that fits into the coil. One has a screw on cap and the other is one piece.

The B stands for Solid Top. Use the B or you will end up with the little screw on ends coming loose.

Screw top - Wire cutters crimp cap = done!

loctite would interfere with connection, just crimp the cap with wire cutters like you would do an electrical connection I have done that for decades.

You can't do that with these. The coil itself goes over the spark plug and it is rigid.

You crimp the cap that you screw on the spark plug before you screw it on, it will be hard to screw it on but it will not unwind itself.

I would just by the correct plug. Just me though.

Here's a question. If it's the same plug accept for the end cap that is removable. The FZ1 is uses the same coil on plug design and has never had a end cap unscrew, why would it on the phazer? Why won't Yamaha just use the "B" plug on the FZ1?
