After inspecting the sled (2005 RX-1) after a weekend of riding and driving over a tree I noticed one of the inside idler wheels was separated from the bearing and laying loose between the bracket and lower shock. No big deal, I'll just replace the wheel. Well I went up to the garage to look and see what size and type of wheel it is and noticed a crack on the tab that the wheel bolts on to. I checked the other side and there is one there too.

What are my options? Can this be welded before they break off completely?Ive read that you dont necessarily need those idler wheels. Is there any truth to that?

I was laid off last week and cant replace both rails so Im looking for my second best option.

Thanks

I would remove the axle/wheels and put the option yamaha low snow wheel kit on the outside of the rails.

YES they can be welded and reinforced, you shouldn't be running over size idlers in the rear inners you have a LOT stress on that part of the rails, the other opion at this point with little modifications would be to go with "DOO" mounts they use 2 bolts instead of 1 and use a large washer on top bolt where the cracks are and drill a second hole on lower part of rail where the biggest part of stress will be with a 2 bolt mount check out this pic these are "DOO" idlers mounts w/2 bolts. I've also noticed in your pics you haven't got the reinforcement kit YAM updated in '06 check the pic you'll see what I mean and the rubber stops seem to be BOTTOMING out pretty bad this could be part of your problem and putting a LOT of stress on those rear idlers your riding weight could be set-up wrong or to weak of a spring and shock might need rebuilding and valving to your riding style. Good Luck ;)!

good looking out.

Can I replace the rails with 2006 rails. Im guessing they would have to be out of an Apex right? I read those are reinforced and thicker.

Am I right?

thanks man

Their not thicker, they're the same as what you have but have the extra BRACING...
