Now that lots of the rumors for 2011 suggest a new 4 cylnder with the odd fire crank does anyone know what that does to the sound? Just curious, will we lose that great 4 cylinder sound or will it be even better, more radical sounding?

The cross plane crank engine is not a good fit for snowmobile. My personal opinion, there would be balance issues associated to the timing that would beat on the primary. No real power advantage when delivered through a CVT, there is also a significantly massive counter-balancer required... It's all about putting the power to the ground, controllably, on a motorcycle that performs somewhere akin to an F1 ride. Cheers cr

How about a motor like the V4 in my new Star/ Yamaha VMax? 200 HP, 125 ft lbs. torque, 1,700 cc.
Even the redline isn't too bad, 9,500 RPM's! I'm thinking it would be expensive thou.....

ooops, I guess my certainty on another thread is now in doubt!!!
Chris, have you had a chance to get some miles with the Yamcharger? How does it feel compared to your turbo RX1 that rode?

In talking with my dealer a few months ago I suggested some radical engine configuration, maybe even a flat 4 like Subaru. .Don't know how practical tbis would be but to me Yamaha's biggest challenge is getting the cg lower, not an easy task.

Starting to think this sled has VVT(variable valve timing),or some sort of DIRECT DRIVE,or both.On the other hand this would really drive the price of this sled to the moon :exc: .
