Damaged Front Heat Exchanger ??

Gamble?

Guess when it comes to studs or no studs, it's a gamble either way. Safety vs. risk of a stud(s) letting go.

Have there been more problems with the Ripsaw tracks and stud problems than any other tracks?

Depending on snow conditions in my area, I may put more miles on running a nearby river system and after having several sleds with studded tracks, running my Apex with no studs in similar conditions has definately made me lean towards traction products. (Don't like the feeling of the rear-end of the sled wanting to pass the front-end!)

Never really looked at the other manufacturer's sled design and how the front heat exchanger is mounted in the chassis, but seems Yamaha's design is not heat-x-changer- replacement-friendly.

Pull the track , have it welded, no problem for a good tig guy !!

I had one that went thru both surfaces also , welder cut a hole , welded the back hole then welded up the outside , $125. no probloms !!!

I have an RX1 that has been running 3 years with a JB Weld Patch. Not even any signs of problems. I had caught a rock between the track and heat exchanger.

As you saw in my picture, my heat exchanger was what I would consider beyond weldable and I chose to replace it... Since I did the work, I noticed a problem with my clutches not shifting properly and an overevving condition that I could not tune out. It turned out that my center-to-center clutch alignment was out. A friend of mine had a tool to set the distance properly and after we adjusted it, the shifting problem went away.

So how is this relevant, you ask... Well, as I mentioned in my previous post about the sequence of operations for a heat-X replacement, you have to remove the rear engine mounting bolt. Also, the Heat-X is a structural member of the frame, so when you disrupt all these things when replacing the Heat-X, you will most like have misaligned clutches. So, the moral of the story is that if you choose to replace your heat-X, be sure to have a tool handy to reset your clutch center-to-center alignment.

Thanks to my buddy and TY member RTXRay for convincing me that my alignment was off!

10.700 miles on my apex, 212 studs mix of doubles and singles on the stock 136 track. (All center) noticed a leak at a trail stop yesterday, rode it back to truck... all good. Found puddle this morning, unloaded took all covers off, hoses were all good, looks like I have a small leak on my front cooler.... sucks atleast season is over here anyway 60s this week. I will get a better look once I get time and get the front up in the air. JB weld is great stuff and hope that I have a small enough leak? The old girl needs some other work anyway! Maybe I will try the ICE attack track?
