Dayco XTX or Ultimax XS belt?

My buddy and I both have 2011 Nytros. He just blew the stock belt at 850 miles. It was pretty violent, taking out the bottom belt guard. Took us an hour to clean out the cords. I assume since he smoked the belt in the primary several times is the reason this happened. I have also smoked mine in the primary, although not as much. I assume i should change mine before the same thing happens to me.

From what ive read, it looks like its a toss up as to which belt to run. We do a lot of off trail, so low end grunt is a must. I guess ill buy a new yami belt every 1000 miles. That doesnt seem right though. Sled is an XTX.

I have always used OEM belts and average 5000-6000 km per belt. My last belt lasted about 1500km but i had buried my sled while carving in 4 ft of powder and got caught under an ice crust. Smoked the belt trying to get it out. Afterwards i could feel a slight vibration. I should have changed it as the next day it grenaded. It took almost 1/2 hour to get all the cords and belts pieces cleaned out of the clutches.

If you smoke a flat spot on your belt, changed it out.

Shortly after I started riding my XTX back in `09 I put a flat spot on my belt for a couple reasons (getting stuck, e-brake,etc) When I changed the belt out I also made a few mods to the clutch to allow a tighter grip. I believe there is a post on here somewhere that gives a run down on what you can do with stock components. I now have about 2800 miles on my machine using the belt I changed too after ~150 miles, so ~2650 miles (roughly) on an 8DN. Probably next season I will change it just as maintenance but it doesn't seem to wear and it doesn't slip, it just keeps going and going.

If I can find that thread I'll post it here and, no, I did not change my rollers. Just rivets in the weights and a spring change.

Thatd be great. Thanks

Ok, here is the thread I followed,

http://www.ty4stroke.com/viewtopic.php? ... engagement

It's been a few years and I'm still running this setup. Haven't changed anything.

Starting about halfway down in the thread, look for the post's made by member "170plus". All factory components and it has served me well. Although I may change my secondary spring wrap back to stock as I think it may help corner to corner accel some, I'm not a clutch guru so trial and error works best for me.

Hope this helps.

Went back to the Ultimax belt this year but also did major clutching to match.
I just don't want to run the hard, slippery, hot, dusty, primary grooving, 8DN belt anymore.
Cheers

Well i smoked a few oem and a carlisle belt .. The carlisle didnt last very long maybe 500 miles. All in all the oem is by far the best as far as lasting . Most of the time that burnt the belts up was mild temperatures and going 90 plus mph for a period of time and boom.. I did fry one in cold weather .. Some places in the states have the oem belts for 45 bucks i just sold a few for 70 bucks to a few friends . .

I run stock belts. However the the last two belts started to delaminate right around 1400 miles. I start to feel a vibration. Pull the belt cover and sure enough. Top of the belt has chunks missing.

I've been looking for a new belt for my 2009 XTX (first year riding it).
Ultimax XS805 : 45.125'' X 1.375''
Dayco XTX5033 : 44.5'' X 1.415''

I think the Dayco would run higher on the secondary, but would it be too high?

There must be one belt that is better than the other considering the diiference of size.
Dayco is the best snowmobile belt out there. I have 3 seasons on an HP series on my cat. I have 2 seasons on xtx series for my attack. Another buddy has xtx on sabre cat no issues there either. The xtx series is built for high horse power sleds. Great for deep powder play.

You guys saying these dayco and other brand belts last long must not ride very hard at all. Between me and my buddies, I have seem 6-7 non Yamaha belts blow in the past 2 seasons.

One was a 2stoke viper, srx, couple apex, vector and a nytro.

Same group of us, I have only seen one 8DN belt blow, and that was on my brothers MCX apex at 14 psi, and it still lasted about 1500kms, and he rides hard.

The only aftermarket belt that seems to last are those Gates carbon fiber ones, but you can buy 2 OEM belts for the price of one of those.

I have owned many high performance Yamahas and have logged 10's of thousands of miles racing and trail riding and can say that the Yamaha 8DN belt is the most durable belt. I have used dayco and gates in the past but have blown a few mostly on my past SRX's. I also change out the DN belt at about 1200-1500 miles for piece of mind since they are so cheap.

Ditto to that photo. Did that one spring day in the mountains while going hard on a lake with overflow. Went from 50 kph- zero instantly. Almost broke my feet on the footbars so removed them (the footbars, not my feet)
