i have heard that an 1-1/2" track does fit in there with some trimming for protectors with no studs.

1 1/2" fits with no trimming. I removed the tunnel protectors.

I've posted on this subject before . Single best thing you can do is get rid of the stock tunnel extension. I installed a Hartman 144 extension right before installing my ExpertX in my Attak. Rode 1 trip with the stock mono shock skid with a Predator 1.25 track. Couldn't believe how much better it got around off trail. When the skid transfers the stock extension acts like a grader blade. Little to no snow evacuation and drags a ton of snow. Aftermarket extensions all angle up faster and evacuate much better. Combine a 1.5 track and different extension and you'll be pleasantly surprised!

So is that where they get the lower gearing as well? If i wanted to go from a 121 to a 136 or 144 with tunnell / rail extensions and a 1.5" or bigger track would going with smaller drives be a good idea? Days of going 120mph for me are long gone so im not too detoured about the reduction in top end.....Smaller drivers

yes it should work fine. went from a 136" 1-1/4" track to a 151" 1-1/4" track on a sled with only changing the drivers to 8 tooth extros from 9 tooth stockers. you might need more gearing depending on your conditions but that is personal preference.
