DEJA VU I'm at a crossroads

Theres been a few posts lately here with pictures. Just look back a few days to find them.

I have the Woodys pattern with both the inside and outside done funny in my case the studs in the middle pulled thru. And I'll run this by you. A friend of mine with a camp on Long Lake will got out and find dead deer and haul them out on the ice in the middle of the lake. He them watches for the coyotes he kills alot of them every year by running them down on his sled Skidoo Rev with pics and sometimes he shoots them sometimes hes run them over with his sled and not one problem I personally think with the 1 1/4 tracks there are just to many clearance issues Look at all the buzz when the 2011 Apexes came out about clearance issues I think I had some bad luck BUT also some blame on the sled for durability. Suspension issues , handling, performance for me which isn't the norm I must say but when I know of others who gas and go service once a year and don't touch there sleds otherwise I can't help but wonder.........

Mark, I hate to say it, but I agree with you. I came from 25 years of polaris with vertially no problems. I wanted a good 4 stroke, so I jumped ship to yami. From what I can tell, the yamis are no better than any other brand except the engine. They have an awsome engine. If poo would put a yami quality engine in their sled I would be back in a minute. Also on your running over animal story, a buddy of mine ran over a dead deer about 6 times with his poo that had 144 studs with no ill effects. I mean he was using it as a launch for a jump. I also think that having more tunnel clearance (like poo and others), makes for a better off trail machine, as snow can escape the tunnel better IMO. Last week while I was up sledding in the u.p., I only saw 2 sleds that had to be towed from the trailside. out of hundreds and hundreds of riders. 1 was a newer nytro, and the other was my brothers apex xtx. Well on his, the battery actually cooked itself until it died, and to top it off, the dealer would not warrenty the battery, and said that batterys are a wear item.Well that is another rant for another time, but I gues what I am saying is, if you really feel strongly about this.........jump

the life of the track is not the same on 4 strokes compared to 2s, the high torque rise of the eng combined with driving style is a large factor,my 03rx and 06 apex i would burn through a track a year thats when they were stock with studs, my moms 05 vector had a stud pull through 2 years ago it has 8000 km on it now but we use it to pull heavy loads of fire wood when we cant use quads or a tractor

Sorry to hear about your bad luck. Blaming a Manufacturer for damage caused by an aftermarket bolt on part after running over an obstacle to which the sled is not designed for is abit unfair IMO. No matter what brand one drives studs will always be a potential problem.

are you using the proper backers for the track? i may be wrong but isnt the track a single ply and need larger backers? or am I confusing this?

Sorry, but I LOL'd at this part!

"Just want WINTER to end so I can just smoke the tire of my Harley and ride like a bat out of hell now thats awesome"!!!!

If it wasn't for the icy conditions that happen quite a bit here in Maine then I wouldn't stud but I'm sure you have read the many reports of clearance issues with studs on these newer yamahas the only thing I may do is buy a new one and insist on a 1 inch hacksaw with much shorter studs but tell me why not one of the other brands my friends ride have these same problems and rid eas hard and some ride some serious ditch banging and hit poop and they don't have the problems I've had hitting lesser objects theres just not enough clearance built into the design in my opinion

I ride millinocket maine every weekend
I have a 2006 rtx that had studs tear out twice and puncture the heat exchanger both times.
After the 2nd time i gave up on studs and went to an Ice ripper track. i have not wanted or needed studs since installing the ice ripper. this track has 4000 miles on it and looks like new with the carbide studs still pointy and sharp.
i would suggest trying something like this before giving up.

I do understand everyones points but you just gotta wonder two Apexes with virtually same stud pattern hitting two different things once a chunk of ice the other a coyote and BAM same conciquences. After the first time around I was way more observant of my studs retorquing them and checking my exchanger quite frequently and very I mean very little raising hell in the ditches and boondocking just off trail and yet again it happens. Thank god for insurance but I'd like my sled to last more than 3 seasons> Some of you have to at least think about the clearance issue. Look of all the talk about the clearance issues on the new Apex I really think the only cure is to run a 1 inch track with the shorter studs plain and simple. I do love my Apex but just like a hot sexy woman if shes a bitch shes a bitch and you sometimes gotta kick her to the curb.

N.E. Mich glad you like the comment but trust me if I had it my way I would be smoking the tire off my two Harleys and theres nothing quite like 115 hp and 113 ft lbs of tq at the rear wheel on a HD 115 mph in third gear with two more to go ain't bad either. There's no better freedom than riding a bike preferably HD in my opinion. Just saying

lets talk about harleys instead because , the seasons almost over, and we missed half the year with no snow!!!

i love 2nd gear burnouts on my 96" evo powered softail.

BTW its crazy to ride the northeast without studs , i did it all weekend, and let me say if your not experienced and constantly planning your turns you can get hurt so fast.

im ordering me up some studs for my nytro...
