I have no idea how many of you may have joined the American Sledhead Association. They offer a magazine six time a year and send their members aftermarket parts and accessories (and snowmobiles and ATVs)to evaluate and an evaluation form with the results going directly into the magazine. The best part is you get to keep the goodies they send you.
Anyway, I am one of the "Charter Members" of the ASA I understand. Last month they did a little biography on me in the magazine. They then asked for a short article for the this months magazine. I complied and it's in this months SLEDHEAD magazine on pages 46-47 if you're intersted in reading it.
I just sent them another one on the "hidden benefit of a four stroke".

Very well done. Makes me realize that I spend way too much money on my sled when I don't need to

Thanks Focker! (man that sounds bad)! This is the first time I have ever done anything like this.
As far as joining SLEDHEADS. You can click on the link I left above or call 1-208-524-7352. There are some other benefits to being a SLEDHEAD. You get really cool stickers
You get discounts at a bunch of speedshops, clothing distributors, dealerships, lodging/rentals and videos. I'll post my other article soon. Frosty.

Thanks guys! Yes the pictures with the article in the SLEDHEAD magazine has pictures of one of last winters McCall trips. Those of you going this year will surely enjoy your time there.
"J" we'll have to get together and ride soon (that's if my snowmobile is still in the trailer). I honestly haven't looked at it in a month or so.
I still have a sun tan and sand between my toes from Guam and it's hard to shift gears to the snow and cold. I will shortly though. Frosty

So, until you get the sled up and running, you'll have to come over and watch some snowmibile movies. That IS the next best thing. Too bad you couldn't get the Blue beast up and running for this weekend.

That was a pretty good artical....
Having fun is all that matters... if you have to get into a fist fight with your friends over whos sled is faster.. THATS NOT FUN..
Its all about the trails not the sleds

Your stories are well written.
The first one reminds me of my intro to snowmobiling. My grandfather had a '66 or '67 Polaris Colt with a Whenkle like the cats had in it. At first we would go to the farm to visit and he would pull out the sled and ride tank after tank of gas (my brother and I would take turns and fight over who was out longer and cheating the other). After a while gramps was sick of getting things ready for us and the story was "If your big enough to start it, you can get it out and ride it".
The first thing we would do when we hit the farm was run out to the tractor shed and start yanking on the cord. It didn't take long to figure out the tricks to starting a cold engine. Next thing he would know, we were running circles around the house and fields.
But... we were still at his mercy, those sleds didn't go far without breaking a spring or a bogie.... or belts or clutches. We'd have to walk back to the farm, get the tractor out to pull her home and beg to get it fixed... after chores of course.
A few years back, a buddy of mine found an old Chaparral. I do not recall the model but it was a faster on of the day. We spent a good part of the fall going through it to get things in good repair ( we were getting it ready for the kids to ride in the back yard).... At least that was what we told the wives. Us big kids would take it out on the gas lease roads and see if we could stay on it at WOT through the twisty loop. Taking turns just like we did as kids.
Remember when a 20 mi ride was a big deal? It could take the day to do. Now 200 mi is nothing, 300 mi a couple of times a winter is normal for us.

RedRX-1, Thanks and I too share your memories. I have another story or two that would be pretty fun based upon starting to ride at 5 years of age (38 years ago) and the stupid stuff you do as a youngster.
My problem is I always have to seem to try to make a point when I write something. It's either that we spend our money on the wrong stuff or why four strokes are better.
I think the next one will be just for the fun of it. Frosty
