So I got out Sunday for the first time on my new-to-me 2007 RTX and thought it would have more top end. For starters, this sled has had a lot of engine work by a reputable guy in Nova Scotia and has a Dyno sheet saying 182 HP.

The sled seams to pull good but I could only get about 105 to 108 on the speedo mind you it was alittle warm and the snow was a little loose but not too bad. I also notice that when slowing down almost to a stop, it almost comes out of gear and then grabs hard when you get back on the throttle - must be the weights - but it makes a small pop sound as it comes out of gear. is this normal?

I have a 2007 RTX that is stock. When it was brand new I could pull 125 on the speedo. Now that I have 12,000 miles on it, a cobra track, and extrovert drivers I can only pull 113 on hardpack and about 103 in loose snow. I would say you are on par with stock.

Ive never heard of any apex that could make 180hp with engine mods..

Whats your rpms and what gearing is in the sled, also what track does it have..?

Check your belt width, if it's too thin it will engage and disengage abruptly, as well as have NO top speed.

180 HP is extremely optimistic, what weight is in the primary? That will tell you how much more power it's making...

This is my first Apex, always had Polaris 2-strokes. Happy with the sled but thought it would have more on top. I think it is the stock track and has 192 studs. Not sure about clutching and gearing but pretty sure clutching is not stock.

The previous owner dumped about 3-4 grand into the engine and I saw the Dyno sheet but that is probably crank HP and may not be a true indication of what it puts to the ground. I did hear though that this sled was one of the fastest Apexs around before guys started installing turbos etc.

I should mention too that this sled is mint and had only 1600 miles on it when I bought it so it wasn't beat to crap. Thanks for the help guys, keep it coming.

Try a belt first..

I was getting smoked on a lake by a ZR900 and couldnt believe it.. Changed my belt and was killing him at any speed like nuts..

I think RPMs are high 10's and I noticed the belt is sitting flush with the sheave so could it be my belt?
Mark,
What is peak power on the dyno sheet from that engine? You'll have to target that RPM since oObviously if it had that much extensive motor work done to it then it likely isn't a stock motor power curve. But even then high 10K's should still be very close or you'll bump the rev limiter.

192 picks is alot of weight to rotate, that will slow a stocker down significantly.

What is your clutching?

Ray at Fundy Performance did the work, although now it's called Truro Recreation Products.

I'm not sure what I have for clutching and have no idea what I should have but I may get together with "Yamman" who is only 10 min from me and see if he can give me some insight. I may try to call Ray today too.

Ive heard the fundy kit doesnt perform like its claimed.. Someone correct me if im wrong.. but ive been told this from several customers

Ray does not have a specific kit, he'll do whatever you want from minor mods to turbos
