I was riding tonight and my track started making a thumping sound. I stopped and about 12"was torn off one side and the tension adjuster bolt was bent. Looked like the bolt took a bite out of the track, then it began unraveling. :o| Nothing else wrong with the machine. No bad landings or anything! I have 2 year Y.E.S.. Would this be covered? Any thoughts?

Really depends upon the situation and your dealer. Tracks are considered wear and tear items so the only type of warranty claim Yamaha would consider is if there was a flaw in a specific track. Obviously, anyone that has put studs in the track or has more than say 500 miles on the track will negate any warranty claim.

Think of it more like your car tyres.

Yes unless it was delaminating or something like that I bet they wont cover.Although point could be made that they should have 4th wheel to prevent this.

if you have a good dealer, he should be able to get you some good-will. it won't cover it all but it will help take some of the bite out of the price.

Thanks for the replies. My opinion is that having the adjuster for the track tension too close to the inner lugs is what caused it. I noticed that the piece that broke off is missing a clip. I wonder if this was the catalyst? I think an unprovoked failure should be covered, seems like a silly design (bolts so close to the lugs). However if they find other damaged parts, like old damage, I'm ready to pay.

Same thing happened to me and my dealer covered it but i also threw my rail and slide right threw the track the bolt bent and my track shifted and tore it all to hell and my motor mount bolt came lose and tore my clutch all apart and they went good for it 3,800 in damage to my under carage and track and clutch.

I looked closely and it appears the tensioner bracket on one side has a crack in it. I think when this failed, the slider / adjustment bolt bit the track. Good to hear you got covered.

my track fell off and hit the track adjuster messing up my front drivers $898 later i had it fixed because yamaha wouldnt fix it.

just had mine in to see if i could get a new track, my problem was that the lugs by every window are ripped off, i called yamaha they told me to take it to a dealer and that i should be able to get one..Yamaha had the dealer send pics in of it and they said that is was just normal wear and tear on a sled, the sled only has 300 miles on it...i thought that lugs by EVERY window was a little bit of a coinsidence...whatever
