Drag n fly Apex Clutching

I was just comparing my set-up (Turk's) with the Apex set up found on this manual link. Turk's uses the stock spring and less weight. Randy's loads up the arms and uses the white spring. Does anyone have a good understanding of the +/- of each approach ?
Thanks

Load it up and use the black spring.

I think his question was the +/- of each approach that seemingly get you to the same place in the end.

That is why i said load it up and use the black spring, this is what i had great luck with ,when i ran my DF set up. He also asked,if anyone had a good approach for the proper set up,and this is what i ran,and it was a good set up,i did not like the white spring, and i also ran some stock springs with my DF weights.

For me it was a solid 3 sled lengths, but the weight placement was very different between the two. I found the Boss performance setup with the black spring to be the fastest. I did not try Yamaha springs.

OK Thanks. So let me understand your experience a little more.

So you ran it with the setup as cited in the Heelclicker manual ? What was the performance difference between the white spring and the OE black spring ?
The white spring, will spin the belt, more causing to much clutch sheeve heat, which over time will blow the belt. Either the blk which came with the kit, works fine,or a standard yammi spring, one like the g/g/g or g/w/g will work ok as well.

What is a good starter Drag and Fly recipe (spring, how much weight and where, etc) for a 2010 Apex MTX with stock 16.5 mm rollers and stock gearing. I just picked up a 2010 MTX and it has stock clutching currently, and I'm considering throwing my D&F'S in it. Anyone care to share a good starter recipe? Thx all!

Supersled,
I will have to let you know how my set up goes with DNFs. I need some snow to test it out though. I think I have 4 washers on heel, and just the bolt in the center, tip and overdrive. From there I have the HC red spring in the primary, a stock apex GT at 6-3 in the secondary and 14.5 rollers. Going to see how it works on the trails first as I have all the stock stuff if I ever go into the deep. Once we have snow I have a good test strip to make some runs and adjust from there. I also have a HC white spring to try but am looking at getting a black one ordered as well for another test varible. Like I said I need snow so I can dial a MTX in with DNFs.

Thx Kyle, very cool! I just picked up the MTX and clutching I'd the only thing I may change this year. Plz let me know how your testing goes!

Well I ordered the black HC spring friday so that should show up sometime this week so I should have just about every single HC variation availible. It will just need to hurry up and snow!

Finally able to get out and ride with the new clutch setup. I had to drive 3.5 hours to find snow but got 100 miles on.
With the setup described above. I am totally impressed. I saw 116 going across the lake and it pulls like a freight train. I was able to play in a few foot deep snow drifts and it handles the powder very well too. I am going to leave it as is for a while until I can get some more testing done.
I will have to verify what I all have for washers on the Weights. I actually think I have 1 washer on the bolts in the center tip and OD and 3 washers on the Heel. It pulled to 10800 and held right there all the way across the lake.
