It works great, haven't heard of any failures yet,I see now that Ski-Doo is doing this to the Summit models.

I rode with a guy last weekend who had drilled his track. I think the only real advantage is taking off a little weight. The track still collected snow and he still got as stuck as the rest of us. Maybe it does make it a little more flexible.

I was thinking about doing it to try and get more snow for hyfax lube. I'm tired of changing hyfax every day.

I Did mine the difference is VERY noticable
This is A great Cheap way to IMPROVE stock RX1 tracks or Stock rx1 Sleds
The track Does Clean the Tunnel out Better it rolls easier It is Like adding Horsepower as you reduce Rotating wieght I also Punched my track for Extroverts And added Whal extroverts a great improvment as well
I went with 3 holes 1 inch diameter
I recommend this to anyone
You also seam to get better braking as you add a lot of extra edges to the track comming down hill and the track cleans better for sure

I also drilled my track with 3, 1-1/8" holes. It has held up very well even with the turbo. The track does seem to be more flexible and flows snow through the suspension better cooling the hyfax. On some rides it seemed as though the suspension had less snow than other sleds w/o the holes, but then there were rides when I didn't see any difference. You also loose 2-3 #'s of rotating mass which is always good. I think the biggest concern people had was with durability and I have not heard of any problems with a drilled track coming apart. If you are thinking about doing it, go for it. It will do nothing but help.

Just make sure to put a mask on and/or do it out doors. It gets really stinky.

Mine is A Stock 03 Track Punched for Extros
I find A Good Improvement on DOWNHILL stopping
And The sled DOES feel more snappy
I do Find it has Helped in Clearing out Snow in my Track when I am Stuck which is A Lot
I recommend the proceedure I also Recommend Upgrading to Exraverts
My Track is a Stock 03 Mountain Punched out the Windows Run Wahl Extroverts Drilled sets of 3 one inch holes I think the difference is substantial on a Stock RX1 which mine still isGrifter said:is it worth doing even on the stock POS 03 track?

I have used a utility knife with a new blade for cutting open windows. This works well and really doesn't take long.
I know that guys are using a one inch hole saw for the hole drilling and most often place three holes across the center. I have even seen some use 1 1/8" hole saws without problems. I'm planning on doing this with my 151" track this summer.

I drilled my track with an 1 1/4" holesaw. I started drilling from the inside using a 2-1-2 pattern. The two holes were put in between the track drive lugs where the idlers roll and one down the center.
I also have had a problem with hyfax wear. To get to the steep and deep I have to travel fifteen miles over ice pack on packed trail.
I also trimmed my 2" lugs down with a piece of hyfax as a guide and a box cutter knife.
I have seen my top speed go up at least ten miles an hour.
I did that because the lugs were starting to shear off from the track .
This track is expendible because of the amount of wear and I feel I have nothing to lose.So far ,it's been all good .
My next track will be a 1.25 fully clipped ripsaw.
