Drive axle bearing

I have an 05 Vector with 1400 miles. I just inspected the drive axle bearing today and it looks like new, even the grease. I have read posts and seen pictures where guys are experiencing moisture in these bearings. I wonder if it has to do with storage! After every ride my sled is put in the garage and thawed out and for summer storage put back in the enclosed trailer and parked in the shade. Just curious why some are experiencing problems.

Do you store your sled inside after your ride?

Have you had a d :o| :4STroke: rive axle bearing problem?
 
I store my sled in a heated garage most of the time when I ride in the winter. I am convinced that I have prevented damage to my sled by doing this. For one thing, my entire rear suspension AND RA cable looked like new after 1200 miles of riding last winter. Each morning the sled is clear of snow and ice when I head out to ride. I highly recommend it.
 
Don't worry Oak Hill, this will get at you as well, it's just a matter of miles. The internal of my Venture's bearing did not looked good at all at the pre-season check (my check). Sled got 3600 miles and always slep in the garage except few rides that i overnight at hotels. I have packed the inside with good grease and this will last for this season but won't be a 100% reliable item after next.
 
I keep mine in heated garage at 6000 miles bearing was still in good shape . Have to check it yet at 9000 miles hopefully just have to add greese

I use a fine pick to remove the seal (carefuly).

Then with a small screwdriver or a finger you add greese.... not too much. If the remains inside seems all fucked up (oh.. can this be said here?) that is dried up or washed by water then a good wd40 shower might be good first.
 
YES! (RX-1) and it aint pretty or CHEAP to fix afterwards.

I've said it before and I'll say it again.

Keep an eye on that thing. If not, replace it at the beginning of the season, or every-other one, or with something better. It's $30 and a couple of minutes if it's intact. Otherwide: IF you don't mind tearing down your chain-case, suspension, etc... than don't do anything at all. But if you do, get to it BEFORE it fails.

canadianhunter, I used a GG and a grease needle to inject it behind each BB doing this forced out water I couldn't see. You could also use a chainsaw grease syringe if you don't have a GG. I'm going to keep an eye on it as 4fighter stated it's way easier to replace intact then after the fact. :Rockon:
