With quite a few red-headed stepchild Cat owners frequenting this wonderful forum, I was hoping someone may have a new XS 827 to measure the width across the top cog. I know what it's supposed to be, but just want to compare to the 2 worn ones I have. I apologize to all the yami riders that I may of offended by discussing sh!tty Cat parts.....lol not really

No sh_t sherlock, got one coming in 3 days. I'm impatient, so just curious as to what others are seeing. Why don't you just worry about how you're gettin' out of that hell hole IL...lol

Btw this is typical bs between buddies

The dimensions can be found online for all of their belts... although, I don't see the XS829 on that list.

I have 2 new belts on hand, one from 2021 and one from 2022, one measures 1 7/16th and one measures 1 15/32 inch.

You can't accurately measure belt width by measuring the width at the top cogs. Those are clipped as shown in the PDF file posted by @Turboflash and may not necessarily be clipped to the same width.

You are correct, but if you're just looking for a "close" measurement to compare, it works. There's nothing scientific to what I was looking for, other than a same location measurement.

The new 827 I just received was 1.445. It's crazy how much these belts have gone up in price. I looked back a couple of years and had paid $95. Almost double in 2-3 yrs...wtf

xs827 is 1/8" longer than xs829.... somone said compound was diff but i asked timken and said XS belts have same compound accross the board.

They both are supposed to be 1.5" width tho, so from your measurements there was .03 difference from 2 of the same width belts. That's all I was really trying to get at from this thread, just checking manufacturing tolerances, or lack of for $175.00?

the 2020 cat belt is wider than the 2017 ... thats why the xs827 was undated to xs829 for 2020, everyone ive measured is wider than xs827

Projected top width is what matters functionally. Really, with Timken belts, there is no significance to measuring "top width" with a caliper other than to realize exactly what they state in the technical document. You can't draw any conclusion with that measurement. Timken guarantees projected top width. Comparing two belts of same part number and coming up with different measured top width would be expected. However, if we could measure "projected top width" they would be the same.
