I am assuming I have 8 tooth drivers on my RX1M. What is the difference in performance when changing to 9 tooth?? (or 9 down to eight). Also, what advantage is it to have extrovert drivers?? I know you can run a looser track, but is it worth it?? The reason I ask is because I will be taking off my ripsaw and installing the stock 2" before next season. So when I have the drivers in my hand it will be a little easier to make a change....if it's worth it. There are no mountains here, but the snow gets deep.

You can run a looser track which the motor can turn easier when you run extroverts.
When running extroverts you can also remove the transfer rods in the rear suspensin and add a rear limiter strap (or buy the Mountain Performance Transfer Enhancement Kit). This will increase the ski-lift and allow the sled to plane up easier in the powder.

I am looking to change to extrovert drivers and opening windows and clipping the track. Is a special tool needed to put the clips on a track once the windows are opened.

You can just cut the windows and not run the clips if you want to as well. I have about a thousand miles on my track running it that way (4,200 miles on my track overall).
If you decide to clip the track yourself it does take a special tool to install the clips. Look at getting the new clips that have holes in them if you go this route. They are lighter than the standard ones and hold snow for lubrication. The new Mountain Apex has this type of clip installed every other (or every third?) clip.

I don't think they are needed - I have not heard of anyone ruining a track from just punching it out and running extros. (maybe someone else can chime in here if they have heard of one failing)
IMO - clips are not needed so why spend the $$ and time? Plus they add weight (rotating) to the sled.

I Punched out my Windows Run rextros No Clips
I Punched out my Windows on a stock track Run wahll extros No Clips in the Punched out Widows I also Drilled 3 one inch Holes on and the track runs fantastic the sled bracks better down big hills the tunnel stays cleaner
it is easier to dig the sled out And I am VERY rough with my Machine
Clips NOT NEEDED I am positivly certain on this
I think the Extra Holes Work pretty Good as Well

How do you punch out the windows??? Exactoknife??? Is there anything to watch out for when doing this??
I am a flatlander and powder is not always an option. Are extroverts a "must have?" or nice to have?

I used 2 good (sharp) wood chisels. One 1.5" wide and one 1" wide.
Extroverts allow you too loosen up the track. Tighter tracks rob HP. Running it too loose with extroverts causes the track to balloon - so there is a definite happy medium. Most guys will run the track tension at 1.5 - 2 inches of sag (measured with the rear end up in the air and no downward force on the track)
If you get rid of the transfer rods (uncouple the rear skid) by using MPI's transfer kit or by building your own - there is an increased tendancy to ratchet - which is why I installed the extros. Some guys have run the kit without ratcheting though FWIW.
